There is a growing trend at educational institutions for students to opt for

computer-based subjects instead of science education. There are three main

reasons for this. In my view, this is an overall negative development.
The primary reason behind this shift is the rapid progress of technology, which
has made computer-based subjects more widespread, accessible, and aligned with
students' desires and learning needs. For instance, many students enjoy creating
graphs and writing code in computer-based subjects, as opposed to struggling
with complex concepts. Additionally, science subjects like mathematics, physics,
and chemistry are often perceived as difficult due to their intricate concepts,
extensive calculations, and laboratory requirements. On the other hand, computer-
based subjects are seen as more accessible, especially with the availability of
user-friendly software and coding platforms. Lastly, some science subjects are
still taught in a traditional and conservative manner, which can lead to uninspiring
and monotonous teaching methods that fail to engage students.
This shift has negative consequences as it could harm industries heavily reliant
on employees with scientific knowledge, resulting in a significant decline in such
employees. Furthermore, unless this issue is addressed, there is a risk of a
widening skills gap. Moreover, the diminishing scientific knowledge could hinder
scientific exploration. This is because science subjects foster curiosity, critical
thinking, and an exploration of the natural world. Consequently, students may
miss out on the opportunity to develop these skills and grasp the underlying
principles that govern the universe. Lastly, a disproportionate emphasis on
computer-based subjects may lead to a limited understanding of scientific
principles and concepts. Science subjects encompass a wide range of disciplines
and provide a holistic comprehension of the natural world, which is crucial for
informed decision-making and tackling complex global challenges.
In conclusion, solely focusing on technology-based subjects has various
negative impacts on individuals and organizations globally, due to several
reasons.
