3:3 ANALYSIS OF LEARNT KNOWLEDGE AND APPLIED SKILLS.

I was able to put my understanding of organizational behavior and employee relations to use by
applying the attachment opportunity to my interactions with co-workers and even the general
public. I was able to understand the question of why orientation and induction are crucial to our
organization while leading new intern and employee orientation and induction.

During my attachment at The Kenya Film Classification Board, I was able to put the majority of
finance and accounting to use in the department. I also learned how to communicate effectively
with co-workers and the general public, so that when I'm out in the field, I can explain to people
what they need from the company. The record-keeping, accounting, and finance concepts I learnt
in class were also familiar to me.

However, during my attachment, I was physically competent to accomplish tasks and I learned
more about performing the actual work.

I was able to observe prospective working situations first-hand during the attachment, which also
served to supplement my academic work with real-world knowledge. I was able to relate
academic programs and career goals to pre-professional work as a result, giving them insight into
their chosen career. The industrial attachment allowed me to integrate relative practical
experience with theory so that I could apply skills and theoretical concepts learned.

The university and department anticipate that the employer of the student on attachment will
accomplish the attachment's goals, which include giving the student real-world experience and
discipline, real-world supervisory experience, and the industrial attachment is anticipated to give
the student some expertise in job planning and evaluation. Development of abilities and work
habits for professionals, Better chances of obtaining a full-time job after graduation; all of these
were given a chance and did well during the attachment period.

I improved the trainee's communication and practical abilities during the attachment time. It
improves training, fosters industrial collaborations, offers a national system to address important

9
skill need, and gives employers the chance to contribute back to the community or society. It
gives training institutions a way to respond to critical skill gaps that have been identified at the
national level, It enhances a trainee's manual skills related to scientific and technological
procedures. It enhances a trainee's personality and comprehension of both individuals and
groups in a professional environment. Additionally, it gives the trainee background knowledge
and experience with regard to job choice.

The study supports the findings that, despite the crucial role that industrial attachment plays in
giving trainees the practical skills, knowledge, and understanding required for employment in a
particular occupation, many training institutions have shown little or no interest in encouraging
technical trainees to participate in such attachments. This raises serious concerns about the nature
of the industrial attachment program.

The study participants are likely to enter the labour market with little to no experience that is
relevant to the field of work or that provides the foundation for entry into additional education
and training for specialized jobs if this situation persists in the technical institutes.

Getting practical real-world experience is one of the internship's top priorities. A complete and
accurate picture of the workplace environment is provided by industrial attachment. What is the
culture at work? What can we anticipate? It entails experiencing both highs and lows. I must
inquire: Is work experience right for me? Is it a place where I can prosper? The internship is a
method to test out potential career paths. By allowing the student to understand more about the
company's particular business, field, and technology, participating lifts the veil. Realistic
assessment values based on the essence of work, as opposed to those that are embellished with
imagination

It is not necessary to overstate the value of having a clearer understanding of what is happening.
Some of the main reasons why many jobs fail to take off are a lack of direction and unreasonable
expectations, not a lack of intelligence. But more than just acquiring a feel for the job, an
internship allows me to connect the academic setting with actual realities in terms of
opportunities and obstacles. The internship offers the chance to learn about ethical standards that
cannot be experienced or taught in a traditional classroom setting.

10
In the modern world, competency is necessary in the sector in addition to qualifications, and
having quality job experience boosts marketability. Competency is a key bonus, as is learning
and contributing to the workplace environment.

The internship is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to look for work and do interviews.
Through internships, one can learn how to advertise opportunities and receive expertise in job-
hunting techniques including writing a resume and cover letter and conducting interviews. When
creating a résumé and conducting other job searches, it is helpful to evaluate oneself in order to
determine future goals.

I was able to develop professional networks thanks to the internship. Building a personal
network of people you can rely on for guidance, job and technical aid, and other beneficial
support is easier when you interact with working professionals, deepen your network, and grow
it.

Internships are viewed as potentially useful resources for investigating both general career paths
and particular employers. Such arrangements may give individuals the chance to secure a career
before graduation as well as significant practical work experience. Additionally, the students
might be able to receive financial remuneration and academic credit for the internship, and
employers might find it useful.

11
CHAPTER FOUR

4.1 PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCE GAINED

The three months of my attachment enabled me to more experience, skills and competency.
While at the Kenya Film classification Board (Nairobi), interacted with very many clients who
needed to be helped to the required services. Therefore I was able to acquire communication
skills with the start and even from the clients. During my attachment, & acquired competence
skills I and other skills in all sections that I was attached. The following are some of the skills
and competence I gained.

4.1.1 Teamwork.

I learned that working as a team there was high better faster and smooth operation of work and in
the of section that lack teamwork, I noticed that there was a presence of unhealthy competition
and even mistrust among employees.

4.1.2 Management of records.

I learned the skills of how to properly manage the organization records during my attachment
period especially the files. How safely to store the files, arrange them property in the cabinets.

4.1.3 Transparency

This is the art of being open and honest in whatever you do. When making the decision one
should be open as possible and honest. I learned that honesty sets one free besides gaining trust
from fellow employees, and the client and management at large.

4.1.4 Coordination

During my attachment period I learned that different departments at the Kenya Film
Classification Board carried out their functions in a coordinated manner with other departments.

4.1.5. Organizing

I also gained the skill/knowledge that an organization requires an orderly approach, organize
files, strong time management skills, and personal efficiency are keys to business management.

12
4.1.6. Fairness

I learned that to be a successful manager, one has to demonstrate fairness. This tells that
communication should be clear member voices are heard, and laws and policies are followed.

4.2 OBSERVATIONS

 Open communication

During my attachment, I observed communication between employer and employer and as well
as attachés. They communicated with concern so that the attachés can feel at home.

 Willingness to teach attachés

Kenya Film Classification Board staffs especially the department I was attached, possess a heart
to teach and coach the attachment students in the best way possible.

 Good employer and employee relations

There was a very pleasing relationship between employer and employee and as well as their
clients, and the attachment students. This means a flow of work and regulations facilitate this co-
existing.

 Staff commitment

I observed that in all the department, I have been in, the staff were committed to their work in
which there was a minimum supervision for them hence stressing their heads less.

4.3 STRATEGY FOR UTILIZATION OF CONTRACTS ESTABLISHED DURING THE

ATTACHMENT

Throughout the attachment period I interacted with many people we shared ideas and skills.
Through my interactions, I come across many people who will be important to my education
career development

I got a human resource manager, financial accountant, and other staff who assisted me with a lot
of ideas and skills and supported me during the attachment period, they helped me to understand
the basics activities of the company and how to talk and convince customers about the material
to use for the best results in future.

13
The skills I acquired during my time of attachment will be of great significance to me as I
progress with my career.

I will apply the managing rules and ethics to enhance my profession and
competence in my career field

Having acquired negotiation skills, I will be able to interrelate with all other departments
in any organization to enhance the effective flow of work and continuous production

I will also apply the managing rules and ethics to enhance supplier and selected appropriate
procedures and all suppliers pose the attributes such as delivery on time, quality product, and
reputation among others

Having gained knowledge about the system I will be in a position to cope with technology, if
given a chance to be a manager I will be able to adhere to the organization

14
CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, RECOMMENDATION, AND CONCLUSION

5.1 SUMMARY

During the attachment period, I acquired skills and knowledge on how to carry out effective
management activities and also document management as I was able to learn and know every
document used in the organization.

The necessary knowledge I gained from class helped me to understand more about how to carry
out management functions effectively, some specific activities undertaken seriously active are
management records, data entry drafting memorandum, office management planning, and
controlling finance and accounts in general. All this was for the provision of better services to
the company at large and its client’s members.

Allocation of approvals of funds letters to the finance and accounts departments is needed in
the company and its undertaking and finally making apportionment with various key
stakeholders to the company and its environment

I was in a position to practice all these activities successively

5.2 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTRED DURING THE PROGRAMME

(i) There is the superiority of the seniors, where some may make decisions without considering
the juniors but are still responsible for the consequences of their decision.

(ii) The majority of attached students find it challenging to utilize the system because they must
use staff members and password.

(iii) As one item must be done numerous times, there is a lot of work to be done twice.

(iv) Due to employee absenteeism an attaché is forced to stay in one place and perform on task or
duty for an extended amount of time, which encourage boredom.

5.3 RECOMMENDATION

I recommend the school train on accounting systems so that when the students go to the field of
work they don’t experience hardship in learning how to use them. Based on the observations and

15
the findings, I recommend that employees at the management level of the company should
exercise their power and duties fully as prescribed by the laws of the government. The
government should devise policies to guide both parastatals and non -governmental
organizations and companies in adopting total quality management to increase efficiency in
management.

There are some critical issues I learned at the company which affects ethical management
functions. It is my wish to recommend the following to help solve its problems.

The company should have a general trainer who is multi-skilled to train attachés to help in time
management rather than every intake of attachés the staff start over and over to train them.

Interns and those in attachment should be guided properly, hospitable way to establish mutual
benefits to attaches in acquiring relevant skills and to the company at large.

Managers should reinforce staffs behaviours that lead to company objectives, deal with
absenteeism and also motivate staff within the role they perform, and maintain positive attitudes

All positions should be advertised to the public as it is required by law. Management should put
more effort into making sure that all post is advertised accordingly to get fully qualified staff in
their profession.

5.4 CONCLUSION

I sincerely wish to appreciate The Kenya Film Classification Board management for the
opportunity they gave me to pursue my industrial attachments in their company and also for the
assistance they accorded to me, being ready to let me learn from them and gain skills on my
career

The period I have been there has great impact on my career. Finally, I also conclude that the
government should increase its performance in coordinating and checking non-governmental
corporations and companies the way they conduct their operations.
