Topic:

 Kitchen Waste Management using Pedal-Powered Shaft Driven Shredder in

relation to BSF Farming in the Production of Organic Fertilizer.

Target Site of Assessment:

 Kahariam Realty and Farms (located at Brgy. Adya, Lipa-Ibaan Rd. Lipa, 4217 Batangas)

Target Site Contribution in Our Study:

 At Kahariam Farms, they promote the environmentally friendly process of growing our
food at a low price while also teaching us about the benefits of eating clean, pesticide-
free vegetables and living a healthy lifestyle. It doesn't need a lot of land and money to
produce your organic food/goods. Living a healthy lifestyle with this eco-friendly
technology, we can use the benefits of urban farming."
Problem/s:
 Under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Solid waste
management disposal remains a big problem in the Philippines. As the population
continuously rises, so does waste generation; residential waste is more than half of all
solid wastes (57%), including kitchen waste, etc. Many of the most pressing issues in
the country are improper waste disposal, inefficient waste collection, and a lack of
disposal facilities. Unless all problems are addressed, waste from different sources will
pile up. Health and severe environmental effects, such as groundwater and soil
contamination, flooding, air pollution, and disease spread, seem constant.

 On the other hand, Agriculture has conventionally served as the foundation of the
economic system. Farming is still an essential part of the Philippines' economy and is far
distant from the most common type of work. Industrial agriculture as it currently exists
method encourages reliance on agrochemicals, including synthetic fertilizers, without
considering their long-term adverse impacts on the local economy, communities,
human health, and the surroundings.

Detailed Problems:
 Kitchen Waste Management Disposal
 Commercial Fertilizers (Chemical Based)/ (High Pricing)

Possible Engineering Solutions:

Beneficiaries:
 The possible beneficiaries of these machines indicated above, will be small
to medium size organic farms, to maximize time and production with less
manpower.
 The possible beneficiaries are Local Government units (Barangays) by
introducing BSF Farming with the use of our designed machineries helping
them to produce safe, healthy and low-cost agriculture products. (Gulayan
sa Barangay) as an example.

Research Problems:
 Solid waste disposal/segregation of waste due to increased number of
populations, and lacking of disposal facilities.
 Health related problems that are generated by volume of waste
problems brought by the pollution.
 Environmental Pollution (water, soil, air) brought by improper waste
disposal of waste.
 High casting of commercial fertilizers for agricultural purposes.
 High costing of commercial feeds for livestock farming.
Objectives:
 To manage disposed waste in a more beneficial way.
 To help reduce health problems brought by improper waste disposal.
 To lessen the effect of waste to the environment including (water, soil, air)
 To help local farmers in producing products with less consumption of high-
cost commercial fertilizers.
 To produce products that are safe, healthy and affordable.
 Helps lessen the manpower in performing farming with the use of
machineries.
 To collaborate with people and nature in promoting eco-friendly farming
with low-cost budget.
