Title – The room where I love to hang out

1. Look at the names of rooms in the home. Choose three and write three
activities you do in each of them. Try not to be too obvious. Then, read your
descriptions to your partner who should guess which room you are talking
about.
EXAMPLE:
- In this room I can see the sky at different times of the day. I read books and
choose what to wear.
- Is it your bedroom?
- Yes, it is./No, it isn’t. It’s my living room.

2. Divide the adjectives in the box into positive, negative and neutral.

bright cluttered cramped cosy

Suggested answers:
The answers may vary and definitely more than one answer is possible.
positive: bright, cosy, modern, quiet, warm
neutral: furnished, windowless
negative: cluttered, cramped, dark, empty, tiny

3. Complete the sentences with the adjectives from ex. 2. You don’t need to
use all the adjectives.
a) We have just moved in, so the rooms are still empty.
b) I like my room because it’s really quiet. The walls are thick and I don’t hear
anything at night.
c) It was very cold outside, but thanks to the fireplace the living room was warm.
d) Most bathrooms in flats are windowless, so you have to switch the light on
when you enter.

e) Ann’s first flat was so tiny that she didn’t have any room for furniture. She slept
on a mattress on the floor.
f) The flat is furnished, so you don’t need your own furniture.
g) The room was cluttered with his belongings lying all around.

4. Look at the pictures. Work in pairs and react to what you see in the photos
using the tip in the box. Prepare a reaction and a response for each picture.

5. Discuss the questions.


• What are the rooms in your home like? Use the adjectives from ex. 2.
• Can you imagine having a windowless bedroom? How would you feel?
• Is it better to rent a furnished flat or a flat with no furniture?
• Do you like fireplaces in living rooms? Why?
• Is the place where you live quiet? What sounds can you hear when you are at
home?
• What’s your favourite room in your home? Why do you like it?

8. Choose the correct word in each sentence.

9. Work in pairs and say if you agree with the sentences in ex. 8. Give reasons
for your answers.
