OPERATION GUIDE BY FUNCTION
Screen Configuration
 Vehicle identification screen

1. Starting vehicle identification


Performs vehicle identification automatically. For details, refer to [Automatic Vehicle Identification] (P.8).
2. Control menu
For details, refer to [Control Menu] (P.5).
3. Change VCI
Selects the VCM-II to be used. For details, refer to [Change VCI] (P.12).
4. Offline Mode
Makes preparations for using MDARS without a network connection.
5. No Vehicle Mode
Can confirm when and what kind of work was done using MDARS for vehicles designated by VIN. For
details, refer to [No Vehicle Mode] (P.13).

Control Menu
The control menu is displayed constantly and menus can be used when they are selected.

1. Change Vehicle
Returns to the vehicle identification screen for the next vehicle to be identified.
2. Settings
Changes the language and units.
3. About
Displays the MDARS version.
4. Log Out
This function is not available.
5. Exit
Ends the MDARS and closes the window.

Quick Check
DTCs stored in all of the modules can be confirmed.

1. Network view
All of the modules which can be equipped on the vehicle are displayed using box-shaped icons.
When a module (orange color) with a DTC stored is selected, the details of the DTC stored in the
module are displayed.

Note
 Modules which have/do not have DTCs or modules which cannot communicate can be identified
visually by the module color.

Color Description
Green No DTCs

Red Communication Error

Blue No Communication or Not Equipped

Orange DTC(s) exist

Grey DTC Not Supported

Toolbox
Groups the diagnostic repair functions according to the work.

Groups the functions used for maintenance.

Note
 This function is not available with the MDARS release at the beginning of February 2019. This
function will be available with the future version update.
1. Diagnosis
Groups the functions used for diagnosis.
2. Work Support
Groups the functions used for work other than diagnosis.
3. Accessories
Groups the functions used for accessories.

Note
 When is selected, the function list closes.
 When / is selected, all of the function display/non-display can be switched.

Vehicle Identification
Automatic Vehicle Identification
1. Launch MDARS and select [Start] from the [Vehicle Identification] list

The following screen is displayed and the vehicle identification starts.

Performs verification of connection information between each system and collects vehicle
information.
: Between laptop PC and Cloud
: Between laptop PC and VCM-II
: Between vehicle and VCM-II
: Vehicle information collection

If the vehicle is a model compatible with MDARS, the check results are displayed on the network view
screen of the [Quick Check] tab. For details, refer to [Quick Check] (P.6).
If the vehicle is a model not compatible with MDARS, the IDS launches.

 If vehicle identification is unsuccessful
The icon is displayed in red.

Thereafter, follow the screen instructions.

Manual Vehicle Identification
If the automatic vehicle identification is unsuccessful two times, the manual VIN entry screen is
displayed.
1. Enter the VIN and select [Proceed]

The VIN confirmation screen is displayed.

Note
 Text information from other software/systems can be copied and pasted to the VIN field.

2. Select [Continue] on the VIN confirmation screen

The manual vehicle identification screen is displayed.

3. Select the necessary items and select [Proceed]

Note
 Selection items differ depending on the vehicle model.

If the vehicle is a model compatible with MDARS, the check results are displayed on the network view
screen of the [Quick Check] tab. For details, refer to [Quick Check] (P.6).
If the vehicle is a model not compatible with MDARS, the IDS launches.

Change VCI
Selects the VCM-II to be used.
1. Launch MDARS and select [Change] from the [Change VCI]

The change VCI screen is displayed.


2. Select the applicable VCI type and VCI device

The vehicle identification starts.

No Vehicle Mode
Can confirm when and what kind of work was done using MDARS for vehicles designated by VIN.

Note
 This function is not available with the MDARS release at the beginning of February 2019. This

1. Launch MDARS and select [No Vehicle Mode] from the [Start with no connected vehicle]

2. Enter the VIN and select [Continue]

6. Status
Indicates a current or past malfunction for each DTC.

Display of Freeze Frame Data/Snapshot Data
The recorded vehicle and system conditions when a DTC is detected can be confirmed.
Freeze frame data/snapshot data for DTCs which display a on the DTC list screen can be displayed.

Note
 This function is not available with the MDARS release at the beginning of February 2019. This
function will be available with the future version update.

1. Select from the DTC list screen

Freeze frame data/snapshot data is displayed.

History of Diagnosis
Can confirm when and what kind of work was done using MDARS for the vehicle currently connected.
1. Select [Diagnosis] or [Work Support] from the [Toolbox] tab
2. Select [Run] from [History of Diagnosis]

The diagnostic and repair data on the vehicle selected is displayed.

 Select to refresh the diagnostic and repair data on the vehicle selected.

DataLogger
The datalogger consists of a PID/data monitor which displays input/output signals of modules in real time
and a simulation function which drives output-related parts optionally.

Note
 This function is not available with the MDARS release at the beginning of February 2019. This
function will be available with the future version update.

1. Select [Diagnosis] from the [Toolbox] tab


2. Select [Run] from the [Datalogger]

The [Datalogger] tab is displayed.


3. Select [Original Setups] from the [Datalogger] tab

4. Select the module

 Main icons on datalogger screen
Icon Explanation
Returns to the initial selection screen of the datalogger.

Displays the module selection screen.

Displays the list screen of the saved setups.

Displays the module selection screen for the setup setting.

Displays the list screen of the captured live views.

Ends all simulations.

/ Switches the trigger between disabled/enabled.

Displays the PID selection screen.

Displays the screen for switching between the value display/graph display.

Trigger conditions can be set for automatically starting/ending live view capture.

/ Starts/ends the live view capture.

/ Temporarily cancels/restarts the live view display.

Changes the datalogger screen to the full screen display.

 Setting PID display/non-display separately
1. Select from the datalogger screen

2. Move the PIDs you do not want to display to the window on the left and the ones you
want to display to the window on the right

Note
 Move and change the order by selecting an arrow button ( / / / ) or dragging and
dropping a PID.

3. Select
The PID moved to the window on the right is displayed.

Note
 When the name is set and is selected, the current PID list can be saved as a setup.

PID/Data Monitor
The PID/data monitor is a function which can display input/output signals of modules in real time.
In the input/output signals which can be displayed, there is input information for each switch/sensor, drive
information for each actuator, and control information for each system.
For the display method, selection can be made from the value display/bar graph display/line graph
display.
 Ex.: When monitoring using a bar graph display
1. Select from the datalogger screen

The display switching screen is displayed.

 Capture and save
The live view can be captured during display.
1. Displaying live view to be captured

Starts the live view capture.

Cancels the live view capture.
4. Set the name of the capture-completed data and select [Save]

Caution
 The data is saved to the cloud server. For the purposes of personal information protection, be
careful not to input information such as customer names and addresses.

 Playback captured live views
1. Select [Recordings] from the [Datalogger] tab

The list of the captured live views is displayed.

Line graphs of PID/data monitor can be overlapped.
Ex.: Overlapping [STR_ANG] on [APP]

2. Select from the [STR_ANG]

The [STR_ANG] moves to the [APP].

 Creating a new setup
Several PIDs often used in diagnosis can be compiled and saved as 1 setup.

1. Move the PIDs you do not want to display to the window on the left and the ones you
want to display to the window on the right from the PID selection screen

2. Set the name for the setup and select [SAVE]

 Using a setup
Displays several PIDs set in a setup.

1. Select [Saved Setups] from the [Datalogger] tab

The list of setups is displayed.


2. Select the setup to be confirmed
The PIDs set in the selected setup are displayed.

Other Diagnostic Repair Functions
Items other than read/clear DTC and datalogger, such as sensor initialization and operation history, can
be confirmed.
Ex.: When doing [Front Wiper Position Learning]
1. Select [Work Support] from the [Toolbox] tab
2. Select from the [WIPER/WASHER SYSTEM] menu

The wiper and washer system-related work support function list is displayed.
3. Select [Run] from the [Front Wiper Position Learning]

Thereafter, follow the screen instructions.

 When is selected, the function list closes.
 When / is selected, all of the function display/non-display can be switched.
