Summary of Clarksdale Paint Processes

The Metso Minerals, Clarksdale facility produces fabricated metal products (SIC 34) in the
form of conveyor components. These are steel pulleys, idlers, hubs and other accessories in
several configurations. All steel products are surfaced prepped according to manufacture
guidelines and are coated with a low HAPs acrylic blue enamel prior to shipment.
Approximately 80 percent are painted on a continuous Flow Coat Process where the products
are hung on a conveyor, washed with a heavy-duty detergent removing fabricating soils,
grease and oil, rinsed, rinsed a second time, air dried, coated, and then infrared lamp dried.
The remaining items of a certain size and/or special handling characteristics are coated in two
manual spray paint booths using conventional hand spray guns powered by air-less air-assist
technology to provide an efficient transfer of paint. Our coating is a premium quick-dry acrylic
enamel featuring a built in corrosion inhibitor that allows it to function as a primer/finish coat in
one. It is formulated with a resin to enhance color retention and durability. Its quick drying
characteristics make it ideal for production work where efficient handling is required.

Over the years, several coatings from various suppliers have been used for many factors,
some technical, some financial and other business reasons. In each instance, there has been
an effort to improve the adherence, corrosion protection qualities and overall appearance of
our paint finish.

In previous years, the coatings used xylene as a thinner in varying concentrations due to
conditions of time, temperature, humidity, etc. Since 2007, we have used naphtha as a thinner
in order to comply with federal and local emissions regulations. This change has allowed us to
meet environmental requirements while maintaining a quality finish.

Metso Minerals-Clarksdale is continually examining it products and processes with a desire to

improve them. There have been on-going efforts with suppliers of equipment, supplies,
materials, etc. to improve the overall function, quality, and efficiency of our paint process.

Idler "Extended Storage" Recommendation

All Stephens-Adamson idlers are factory lubricated and ready for operation as received.
Idlers stored for extended periods of time must be stored in a dry location either inside or if they
must be stored outdoors then they must be protected with an appropriate weather resistant cover
such as a tarpaulin or plastic sheeting. The cover should be securely attached to protect from
~ weather elements including direct sunlight, but should allow for air circulation to prevent
~ condensation.

~ Idlers not put in operation within 6 months after delivery must be checked before installation,
because greases when exposed to the elements, not in service, can oxidize and result in separation ,
, of oil and base.
~ Before the idlers or rolls are stored, rotate each individual roller to be sure it turns freely and make a
. thorough inspection before removal of to be certain that they were not damaged during shipping.
' Shipping damage should be dealt with immediately, rather than after the extended storage period is '
~ over and the idlers are to be utilised.
As a minimum, the shaft should be rotated in the roll several times and the roll itself rotated
, periodically after every 6 months of storage.
~ Idlers stored indoors must be raised off the ground on pallets or appropriate blocking to allow air
~ circulation to prevent condensation from forming under the idlers.
Idlers stored outdoors must be stored in a dry location raised off the ground on pallets or '
appropriate blocking to allow air circulation and they must be protected with an appropriate weather '
resistant cover such as a tarpaulin or plastic sheeting. The cover should be securely attached to '
protect from weather elements including direct sunlight, but should allow for air circulation to prevent
~ condensation. The protective cover should be securely attached on all sides and reattached after
~ each inspection period.
~ The idlers need to be secured in a manner that will allow access to them but will not allow them to
fall or topple over or damage could occur.

Refer to the section titled "LUBRICATION INSTRUCTIONS" located in the installation and
instruction manual for procedure and lubricants to be used.

In addition to the above general precautions, the following specific instructions should be
, applied to each idler type:

Regreasable Taper Roller Bearing idlers if stored for more than a 3 month period should be
~ regreased before being subjected to full loaded operation.

If the idlers are equipped with taper roller bearings but not fitted with SYNCHRO-LUBE they are of
~ the sealed (greased and plugged) type. At a minimum, they should be turned several times after
every 6 months of storage. A better but more involve process would be to re-lubricate the rolls. To
re-lubricate troughing rolls, remove the plug in one end of the shaft and install bushing part number
~ AD-FIT05-001-1 and hydraulic fitting 00-733-105-024. For return rolls, remove plug and install only
the hydraulic fitting part number 00-733-105-024. Replace plugs after greasing. 0
