3.0 RESEARCH
3.1 BALANCE
Balance is the distribution of visual weight of the objects, colors, space and
texture. The design should have the elements that make the design look stable.
There are types of balances which are symmetrical and asymmetrical.
Asymmetrical: The design has parts that is not exactly the same and fail to
correspond to the other either in shape, size, or arrangement.
Example :

3.2 CONTRAST
Contrast in design occurs when the elements of visual are placed closed
together and is noticeable that they are different from each other. Contrast is
used to create visual hierarchies between the elements. While color is the main
aspect of contrast, there are also sizes, textures, and shapes to consider.
Contrast can create a focal point for the viewers to see what the main object or
message is.

3.4 REPETITION
Repetition means to use an element that is the same or similar over and over
again. This method is great for adding textures. Not only does it creates an
element of unity, it also helps with creating textures and bringing the project to
life. Repetition is used to create some sense of unity and consistency throughout
the design.

3.6 WHITE SPACE
White space is blank or empty spaces surrounding all the elements in a design
composition. It is all the spaces between the texts, images, buttons, graphics,
and other objects that a user can see on their page or screen. White space are
used to remove all the distractions that makes the design too full.

4.0 STEP BY STEP
4.1
- The heart and diamonds are an exact mirror of each other which makes it
symmetrically balanced because it has the same weight distribution.
- The movie poster shows the main character standing on a perfectly round circle.
The elements in the poster are symmetrical.
4.2
- The example given is to show the weight distribution that is heavier on the left side
where the one black heart resides.
- The website layout is heavier on the right side as there are more elements like the
pizza, soup, utensils and buttons.
8
4.3
- The red heart appears first to readers’ eyes as there is contrast in color and red is
more vibrant rather than gray.
- The poster for Coca-Cola focuses on the Diet Coke as it has a different color than the
others.
4.4
- The alignment are examples of left alignment, right alignment and centered.
- The business card has the texts right aligned for the name and job while all
the informations are left aligned.
4.5
9
4.6
- The first picture is the example of good and bad use of white space where the
pink lines and the gray triangle have little space between them.
- The jewellery store logo focuses on the name of the store and kept the white
spaces needed in order to not distract the readers.
4.7
- The example is showing that it needs spatial relationship in order for the
elements to be an object as related elements should be nearer to each other.
- The website sample is showing proximity as to the phone cases product
being under the same category and are similar.
