RAMADHAN
Director's Treatment by John Poliquin
Concept
Whilst dining or breaking fast with friends or family,
everyone wants to sport their best attire, the best looks,
the clothes that make them feel confident and good
about themselves. Ramadhan is one of those occasions
and BliBli celebrates it by offering a special clothing
collection fit for the occasion. I am excited to present you
my vision: a lush fashion film consisting of several
tableaux/ vignettes, shot in a seamless one-take (or,
better yet, faux one-take). Attractive high-end fashion
models wearing clothes and accessories from Bli Bli will
be dining, conversing, posing, having a laugh, whilst the
camera seamlessly floats from one restaurant room to
another, creating different feels, in perfect sync with the
plethora of garments in BliBli's special collection. It's all
about showcasing the clothes and the people who wear
them. It's like a fashion editorial coming to life and I'll be
there to capture that magic.
Narrative

Each of this tableau/ group situation will be all about the clothing.
We will make sure it pops through lighting, art direction, and
composition, highlighting the clothes and accessories. The models
have to stand out, too. Although they will move graciously, like in a
dream, they will not be totally frozen. The way they act is a mix
between posing for the camera and interacting with each other,
with discreet but tale-telling gestures. The featured items in each
tableau will stand out through a careful combination of lighting,
posing, and frame placement. In addition, each of these tableaux/
groups will have a different feel/ vibe to it, thus highlighting the
richness of the collection. We will achieve these different vibes by

Talent
treating each group as a separate vignette. The leading thread,
that gathers together all these beautiful people is the steadicam,
that stiches it all up together. Otherwise, the lighting, the camera
design will create a different vibe for each group situation, to

acting
reflect the high variety in Bli Bli's collection. In addition to acting
and styling, MUAH will play an essential part in describing each
model/ character, making them stand out
Camera
In order to create that floating, flying camera
movement we will use a steadicam/ gimbal. We will
break down the sequences in 2-3 featured styles and
then seamlessly blend them together in a continuous
edit. This will allow us the freedom to re-order if
needed. In addition, if we divide the people into say
7-8 groupings and shoot 2-3 vignettes in one take, we
will need only 3/4 transitions, a mix of in-camera
pans, match cuts and hidden cuts, that will give the
viewer the impression that the entire film has been
shot in a single continuous take. This will help with
the cut down’s as well - it will feel continuous, but it
will allow to isolate different moments of the day.
Whilst main photography will rely on floaty
steadicam moves, it will be interesting to maybe jib
the camera up in order to capture high angles and
group situations. Without being too intricate, all these
camera blocking techniques will emphasize the
clothes and accessories and the way the body
moves.
Styling
Featured items in each tableau, whether it's
turbans, batiks, beautifully patterned dresses,
lady handbags, shoes - they all need to stand
out. We will achieve this through different
lighting designs, meant to reflect the clothes
attributes: the way the dress your body, the way
they make you feel, the freedom to move. In
order for the film to play out like an animated
dream, like a living tableau or fashion editorial,
we will treat each clothing item with utmost
attention and care. As if the camera were
caressing the fabric, our steadicam will follow
and capture the folds, the cuts, the stitches, the
smoothness of the textures, the vibrancy of the
colours, the sparkles and shininess of the jewels.
Each of the posing groups will be styled
differently, and we will emphasize this by
different lighting design and maybe props.

Art Direction
For all purposes, I suggest an upscale location that
incorporates all the elements in the brief: something like
the Indochine restaurant in New York. It displays a mix of
fashionable and classic, of vanguard and legendary, of
modern and exotic. Urban architecture complemented by
banana leaf wallpapers, checkered tiles and green, blue,
and golden hues will complete the tableau.

Lighting
Each group situation will be lit slightly differently, to give
off a different feel/ vibe. Since the Ramadhan feast takes
place at sundown, we will make sure to incorporate
golden hour in our shots, or various moments of the
evening.

Camera blocking
Types of different styles coming through. We willl try to
mirror that by smooth camera moves and swerves, in

addition to lighting. For instance, Camera looking at two

them; then, in foreground, a girl glammed up walks,

energy and help designing the blocking
Here I would like to present the lighting
treatment I have in mind for each set
up/ group of characters.  Different
lighting designs will allow us to insulate
various moments of the day/ evening
and also highlight various garments. I
favour a moody tone, that echoes our
concept of fashion film.

Lighting Moods
Look & Feel
In terms of colour reference, the look
should have a slightly blue-ish hue. We will
combine this with warmer green tones and
delicate skin tones that will give warmth
and a lively quality to the otherwise
dreamy tableau. As stated before, the film
should play out like a haute couture
fashion pictorial (and the 3D fonts add to
that) coming to life. Whilst each situation
will showcase a different lighting design,
reflecting the individual styles, clothes,
accessories, and, ultimately, personalities,
the overall look will be tinted in blueish
hues. Imagine that we were submerged in
a fish tank or in a transparent greenish-
blueish grape and the light will shine
through its see-through wals, like a
delicate film. Whether dim-lit, or in bright
warm hues or vibrant neon, the scenes
should also breathe and be charged with
positive vibes.
MUSIC
(makes the people come together)

The music playing throughout, mixed with a few live

sound effects of people laughing or chatting, will help
create a celebratory mood. Good times necessitate
good music. I suggest that we use a catchy tune, with
an upbeat tempo. It could be either jazzy, in a modern
interpretation, it could be 80's funk disco with a
contemporary re-orchestration. The kind of music one is
likely to hear at fashion show week, catchy, positive and
with an edge. Think Milano, NY, Paris Fashion Week
runaway show. My recommendation is to source a song
with an edge that fits in high fashion space rather than
compose something.

Rather than simply fading in and out, the

3D FONTS
SUPER should play an important part in the
overall design. In order to achieve that, we
will 3D camera track the fonts. By so doing,
we will emphasize both the clothing and the
styles they represent, but we will also
integrate the typography in the composition.
This technique will also enhance the feeling
that we are within a fashion editorial that
BLI BLI comes to life.
