This policy sets out the support that the company will give an employee who suffers a
bereavement.

Parental Bereavement Leave


1. Following the death of a child under the age of 18, an employee is entitled to
take 2 weeks’ bereavement leave.
2. If you work part-time, this leave will be pro-rated.
3. You must take this leave within 56 weeks of the bereavement.
4. This leave will be paid as follows. <Insert details (as a minimum, you must pay
the lower of the statutory rate or 90% of average weekly earnings if the
employee has at least 26 weeks’ continuous service and their average earnings
meet the government’s lower earnings limit).>

Other Bereavements and Issues


5. Following the death of a <spouse, child over 18, parent or sibling>, an employee
is entitled to take <insert number> days of bereavement leave. This leave will be

6. We accept that bereavement is a difficult time. Any absence beyond that allowed

We will respect the employee’s traditions at all time.
8. In the event of a colleague dying, we will ensure as many employees who want to
can attend the funeral. This will be subject to us being able to meet operational
demands.
