REVISION

Recently I watched four videos on TedTalks: “D&D Taught Us How

to Run Great Teams” (speaker Khaled Abdel Rahman), “THIS is
computer music” (speaker Ge Wang), “The mind behind Linux” (speaker
Linus Torvalds) and “Free software, free society” (speaker Richard
Stallman).
First video is about tabletop role-playing game, which is called
“Dungeons and Dragons”. This game requires 3 or more persons to play it.
One of them takes a role of Dungeon Master(DM), this person creates the
whole world of game and makes different situations and challenges for
others. Other players take roles of different characters, which they are want
to be and then they try to overcome all challenges using their using the
strengths of each character. This game teaches players how to act in a team
of different people and how to solve problems in unique, creative way. I
suppose, that this skill of working in a team could be useful not only for
having a good time with friends, but for work as well.
Second video is about music, created by computer. Speaker from this
video is a creator of “Chuck”, programming language for music synthesis,
composition and live performance. Using this language you can create an
oscillator, which can create a sound waves of every form and frequency
and using loops create musical tracks.
Third video is about Linus Torvalds’s technologies, which changed
the world. The first is Linux kernel, which became a part of GNU system
and fulfilled Stallman’s idea of fully free and open-source operating
system. Nowadays Linux kernel used in most of smartphones and more
than 96% of servers use GNU/Linux OS. The second technology is Git ,
the source code management system used by many developers across the
world.
Fourth video is about free software. Richard Stallman tells us how
nonfree programs and systems give companies control of their users. So
users can control the system only in case when this system is open source,
because only in this case we can change everything as we want and be sure
that nobody instead of you will make decisions which software to use.
I liked these videos and they made me really inspired to study these
themes more deep.
