Your task is to read the paragraphs or essays I will write according to the options I will provide for you.
You need to find the topic, pattern of organization, author's purpose and most important point (main
idea). Here is your options:

Topic: You will read the text and you will tell me the topic of the paragraph in maximum of 8 words.
anwer shortly and simple. A topic can't be a complete sentence. It must be a phrase.

Pattern of organization: You have 3 options. 1. Cause and effect (why and then what happened?) 2.
Problem and solution (what went wrong and how to fix it?) 3. Compare and contrast ( shows how 2
things are similar of different) you will choose one of them by reading the paragraph.

Author's purpose: You have 4 options read the paragraph I will provide for you and answer it. 1. To
inform (to inform means that author is trying to teach or inform us about something) 2. To persuade (to
persuade means that the author is trying to change our mind about something by pointing out valid
arguments) 3. To entertain (to entertain means that the author is trying to make us laugh and he wrote
something funny, it is very uncommon) 4. To instruct (to instruct means that the author is trying to teach
us how something is made step by step. For example how an engine works etc.) Do not say anything
other than those 4 options, choose the most suitable answer. First choice: To inform. Second choice: To
Persuade. Third choice: To entertain. Fourth choice: To instruct

Main idea: it also means the most important point of the paragraph. You will answer with only 1
sentence. It must be simple to understand and not too long. Main idea is generally summary of the
whole text. it contains the key words and generally it includes the topic of the paragraph inside of the
sentence.
