with an expansion plan partly funded by the carbon tax.
Food South Australia chief executive Catherine Barnett said on Thursday the expansion meant Golden North could
take advantage of recent growth within the ice cream manufacturing industry to further strengthen its market
position.

ADELAIDE, April 11 AAP - South Australian ice cream brand Golden North is looking to break into southeast Asia
with an expansion plan partly funded by the carbon tax.
The company, which has its production facility at Laura, north of Adelaide, will spend $3 million to add new product
lines and export sales.
That will include almost $1 million for refrigeration improvements that will be partly funded by Low Carbon
Australia, the company set up by the federal government to help the move to a low carbon economy.
Funding has also been provided by Food South Australia and the commonwealth's Clean Technology Food and
Foundries Investment Program.
Food South Australia chief executive Catherine Barnett said on Thursday the expansion meant Golden North could
take advantage of recent growth within the ice cream manufacturing industry to further strengthen its market
position.
"The food industry is critical to the future of the Australian economy and the success of the industry will depend on
technical developments," she said.
Golden North's manufacturing plant currently employs 50 people and produces 9.3 million litres of ice cream each
year.
General manager Peter Adamo said the planned refrigeration upgrades would halve the time taken to harden ice
cream, allowing the company to increase production capacity.
"This will enable us to pursue new business opportunities and help us create more local jobs," he said.
