Critical thinking

1) Why do you think certain religions, certain cultures, or certain societies reject the idea
of accepting one's sexual orientation and attraction?

 People normally have our own thoughts about issues as complex as religion and
sexual orientation, there are people who are more open on this issue, while others
think that if we don't have the same thoughts, we are insane or have serious
problems.
2) What message does the video want to express related to sexual orientation?

 It makes us reflect on how we treat people of different sexual orientation, how it

affects them and in some cases causes them to commit suicide.
3) Compare our own reality here in Peru, regarding the rights of people of sexual
orientation, with other L.G.B.T communities around the world.
In our region, the situation is far from optimal. Only 24% of the countries in Latin America
and the Caribbean recognize same-sex marriage, while many countries still do not have a
law prohibiting discrimination against LGBTI people.
In Peru, legislative initiatives were proposed in Congress three years ago to recognize
equal marriage and gender identity, and adequately penalize discrimination based on
sexual orientation and gender identity, but these have encountered some drawbacks. In a
country where violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity remains very
prevalent, legal protections for LGBTI people are essential for true inclusion.
Therefore, it is understandable that LGBTI people in Peru feel fearful and insecure about
fully living their lives and their true identities.
However, there are other countries where each person is free to have their own sexual
orientation, in the case of Brazil, where despite having marriage equality, they do not
discriminate against LGBTI people.
If we go where this rejection of LGBTI people comes from, it is in our homes where
parents give their children their first knowledge.
I particularly think that we should believe our children and teach them that there are only
two genders, but also that they learn to respect their peers with different orientations.
This subject is very confusing since it will never be possible to reach an agreement
between all the people.
