Aftermarket radio, no buttons and display response

Customer concern
The function buttons and the display on the front
panel does not work.
There is no information or strange messages
appear on the display.
There is no illumination on the display.
The buttons do not respond.
The radio cuts out.

Possible cause
Check the connection between the radio head
unit and the front panel.
For operating the radio refer to the radio manual.

Action
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Remove the radio front panel from the head
unit. (Refer to the radio manual.)
3. Clean the contacts from the radio head unit
and the front panel. (Refer to the radio
manual.)
4. Put the front panel back on the radio head
unit. (Refer to the radio manual.)
5. Press the radio reset button. (Refer to the
radio manual.)
6. Ignition ON.

Additional information
When the reset button is pressed, all settings
are restored to their factory defaults. Some
aftermarket radios recommended resetting the
unit when it is first installed if you are
experiencing any faults with the unit or if
strange messages appear on the display.

The factory installed audio equipment is
controlled via the steering wheel switches. As
there is no standardised communication
protocol, the CAN bus interface between the
radio and the steering wheel switches are
developed by DAF. This means that radio
equipment installed at the dealership
cannot be operated via the steering wheel
switches.
