Labour Market
The term ‘labour market’ is used to describe the place where employers hire
people to work for them. In the last twenty years the labour market has been
changing rapidly due to technological developments.

Jobs can be put into groups or sectors. Some examples are:
Farming,
Health and Creative and
Construction Forestry and Retail
Social Digital
Fishing
Hospitality and
Low Carbon Engineering Law or Finance High Tech
Tourism
Young people, such as you, are predicted to have TEN TO FIFTEEN DIFFERENT
JOBS in their working lives. This is likely to involve working in a number of
different jobs in one sector and will almost certainly involve moving between
sectors.

Task 2
• Research TRANSFERABLE SKILLS (look at least three different websites)
and produce a Powerpoint presentation or a series of posters to cover
the following:

• Identify the Transferable Skills that you think are strengths of
yours and give examples of how you have developed those skills. For
example, you may believe you have developed your ‘Ability to Work in a
Team’ when playing for a sports team.
• Identify the Transferable Skills that you think you need to focus on
developing and explain how you are going to do this for each one.
