THE STUDY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

Definition:
Social science is essentially the study of human society. It offers insight into the social
environment and nature and examines the way individuals behave and communicate with each
other and form relationships. 

 David Emile Durkheim – the father of Social Science.


IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL SCIENCE:
Study of social science makes us an efficient citizen of democracy, and it also helps us to solve
the practical problems in our daily life.

 Martin Seligman - called the “father of positive psychology”.
- He defined Social Science as those mental or   cultural sciences which deal with the
activities of the individual as member of the of the group.
 Wesley C. Mitchell - an American economist.
- According to Mitchell, the term “Social Science” is loosely applied to any kind of study
concerning man and society.
 Peter Lewis - According to him,” social sciences are concerned with the laws that govern
society and the social department of man.”
 Henry P. Fairchild - a distinguished American sociologist
- According to him,” social science as a general term for all the sciences which are
concerned with
the human affairs.
