WORK EXPERIENCE

HOUSE OFFICER (Internship) 2021-2022
This was my one-year internship in Shaikh Zayed Hospital, a tertiary care teaching
hospital, where I delivered my excellence throughout in four rotations of three
months each. These rotations being :-
1. General Surgery & Allied (Plastic Surgery)
2. General Medicine & Allied (Psychiatry)
My duties here were comprised of :-
Attending the daily morning handover.
Taking a detailed history, performing physical examination, formulating
differentials and devising initial management plan for the in-ward and
emergency patients.
Discussing cases with my senior colleagues before ward round, attending the
daily grand ward rounds, presenting cases and noting down orders of the
consultant as well.
Making sure that the round orders are followed properly and timely.
Monitoring vitals of the patients, making referrals to other departments, making
discharge summaries, and counselling the attendants regarding care of the
patients at home.
Maintaining patient files and records & making operation theater list timely
under supervision of senior registrar.
Had the responsibility of doing pre-op assessment of patients and making sure
all the investigations required for anesthesia, cardio & pulmonary fitness and the
surgical procedure are completed.
Performing minor and assisting in major surgical cases with trainee doctors and
consultants in the operation theater.
Attending fortnightly CPD sessions and weekly MDT conferences.
Managing both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions whilst working within a
multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, physicians and psychologists.
Offering a wide range of mental health services across the age spectrum to
meet the needs of children, adults, and elderly people.
During all my rotations, I also had the opportunity to teach a batch of 20 medical
students and paramedical staff regarding history taking, clinical examinations,
formulating the initial management plan and about communication with the
patients in the ward, emergency, and out-patient department.
In the out-patient department, I had the opportunity to deal and discuss patient
cases with the trainee doctors and learned about different medical & surgical
conditions and their managements.
In the ER, I worked with a team of doctors led by a consultant and had the
opportunity to deal with patients presenting with acute and critical illnesses.
Managing acute trauma, poly-trauma, and burn cases in the trauma and burn
unit based on the ATLS guidelines.
Worked on-calls in the ITUs, HDUs, Major Trauma & Psychiatry Units under
supervision of trainee doctors & consultants
