VISITING ITALY
A.
Constantly ranked as having the most popular food in the world, Italy is surely a place in which food must be of
key importance when travelling there. However, when travelling to a new country it can be hard to find the best
local food, so let’s choose a few of the most well-loved Italian meals, where you can find the ideal version of each
dish and as a bonus a recommended walk you can go on when you are feeling nice and full.
B.
A love of pizza exists all around the world, and as the birthplace of this circular delight, it is important to know
where to find the best example. Caserta, a charming little city located 25 minutes from Naples, is home to I
Masanielli Pizzeria da Francesco Martucci, which has been voted the best pizzeria in Italy for the fourth year in a
row. The pizza they make is delicious but is also made in such a creative way that it tastes unlike anything you
have had anywhere else.
C.
After lunch, if you fancy a walk to work off those extra calories, then Caserta is home to the Royal Palace of
Caserta, which was built in the 18th century and is the biggest palace in the world.
D.
If pizza isn’t really your thing, then how about a bowl of freshly cooked pasta? For this yummy meal head to the
heel of Italy’s boot, and the city of Bari. In Bari you will be given the chance to sample orecchiette alla Pugliese, a
dish made up of broccoli, garlic, anchovies, and pasta that is cutely shaped like little ears.
E.
Bari itself is an attractive city. However, while you are there, make sure you catch a bus and take a trip to Lecce.
Described as the "Florence of the South", the city is a dream for history lovers with more than 40 basilicas and
cathedrals there for you to enjoy.
F.
For something a little more on the expensive side, why not try out Osteria Francescana in Modena in northern
Italy? Owned by three Michelin-starred Michelin chef Massimo Bottura, the restaurant offers you an experience
like no other. Their 12-course "tasting menu" provides a mix of both "fast and slow" cuisine and the menu changes
regularly based on the chef’s most recent research.
G.
For your post-meal walk, make sure you check out the Enzo Ferrari Museum. For car lovers it is heaven as it is
constructed around the original Ferrari workshop: a recently constructed glass dome is home to many beautiful,
classic cars and offers a stunning end to a wonderful trip.
