Slide 4 - Agenda

Slide notes
For the capabilities covered in this training, I’ll give an overview, followed by more detail to explain how you can use these capabilities, and what business
value they bring.
Then I’ll walk you through a demonstration.
Next, I’ll explain what you need to consider before enabling this feature in your business, and what you need to know to set the feature up.

Slide 5 - Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
Prior to this update, only a predefined list of measures was available to be included in Build Plan. With this feature, any predefined or user-defined measure
can be configured to be included in build plan, so long as the measure conforms to the required dimensions.
In addition, this feature provides you with the ability to limit the number of time buckets, starting from plan start date, that is displayed in Build Plan. For
example, you can configure the build plan layout to only display the first 6 weeks of the plan horizon. In previous releases, Build Plan displayed the entire
planning horizon.
These capabilities are configured using the manage layouts window.

Slide 6 - Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
With this feature you can also define and apply a rule to the root item nodes which will determine what child items are display.
These rules are criteria-based as opposed to a fixed list of items. For example, you can define a rule that displays all items that are in the next level down in
the item structure. As additional components are added to the item structure, they will automatically be included in Build Plan.
You can add additional criteria, to display items that are next level down in the item structure, but only if they are defined as critical components. If the
critical component item attribute value changes from critical to non-critical (or vice versa), the rule is applied to the build plan when selected and build plan
will reevaluate what components are included based on current values.
You can also use segmentation results to determine which child items are displayed. For example, you may only want to include the items that have high
demand in build plan.

Slide 7 - Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
This feature benefits your business by:
Flexibly analyzing the plan down the entire supply chain to pinpoint issues and opportunities,
Reducing configuration effort by leveraging reusable rules that can be applied against multiple end items or components, and
Improving performance by limiting the time horizon to what’s coming up in the near future. For example, to see results for the next 6 weeks instead of the
entire plan horizon.

Slide 81 - Additional Information for Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
Here’s some important information to be aware of:
Like other pivot tables in planning, Build Plan has a limit of 250,000 cells that can be displayed in the pivot table.
You can use the Number of Time Buckets field to control how many columns are displayed to help stay under the limit.
Including more measures in build plan counts towards the cell limit. For example, if you increase the number of measures displayed from 5 measures to 10
measures, then the number of cells that are being displayed just doubled and may cause you to reach the maximum limit.
Prior to this update, build plan hid measures that didn’t have any values. With this update, by default, build plan still hides measures that don’t have any
values, However, now you have the option to uncheck the “Hide Empty Rows” action from the View menu to see all measures regardless of whether any
measure values are present or not.
Build plan also supports any predefined or user-defined measures so long as the measure conforms to the required granularity. This means:
Item measures must conform to product, organization, and time dimensions.
Resource measures must conform to resource and time dimensions,
And supplier measures must support the product, supplier and time dimensions.
Measures may also conform to other dimensions. For example, a measure that conforms to the product, organization, time and demand class dimension
can be displayed in build plan because the conforming dimensions include the required dimensions as a subset of the supported dimensions.

Slide 82 - Additional Information for Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
User defined measures added to build plan have limited functionality.
The Show details action isn’t supported for user-defined measures, meaning if the show details button is active and a user-defined measure is selected, no
details are displayed. This is because the system has no idea what, if any, orders are associated with a user-defined measure.
The Highlight Related Cells function is also not available for user-defined measures. This is because the system doesn’t recognize what other measures are
related to a user-defined measure.
As for Predefined measures, the Show Details action is supported for these predefined measures which were added to build plan in this update. When
show details button is active and you select a cell related to one of the measures listed here, the applicable details section is displayed.

Slide 83 - Additional Information for Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
In addition, when displaying predefined measures, the Highlight Related Cells action has been enhanced to support the supply, demand and resource
requirements measures listed here.
Regardless of whether the measure is a predefined or user-defined measure, if the measure values can be edited in a pivot table, the value can also be
edited in build plan.

Slide 84 - Additional Information for Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
Currently rules can be configured to display only related items, not suppliers or resources. There are plans in the roadmap to enhance build plan rules to
support defining supplier and resource criteria.
Rules are only enabled if the root node is an item, meaning if your root node represents a resource, the rule field in the toolbar is disabled.
If you have a criteria selected and then select a rule, the rule is used instead of the criteria to determine what child nodes are displayed.
For example, let’s say there’s an item structure for a bike that has 4 components and only two of the components, gear assembly and brake assembly, are
critical components (as illustrated in the left column)
Criteria was selected that is configured to display “Bike” (the root node) along with two components, Gear Assembly and Tires, as shown in the middle
column.
Then you select a rule that is configured to display only the critical components at the next level down in item structure.
What happens is that the two existing child nodes (Gear Assembly and Tires) are replaced with the items that meet the criteria defined in the Rule.
In this example, Gear Assembly and Break Assembly are critical components that are used in the next level of the Item Structure. The result is that only
these critical components are displayed.

Slide 85 - Additional Information for Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
Here is a list of the criteria that can be used when configuring a rule.
The first criteria (item equals all or item equals none) is mutually exclusive and can’t be used with any of the other criteria.
The remaining criteria can be used in combination with each other, except that category and segment can’t be used together in a single rule. For example,
you can specify both Critical Component equals Yes, and Substitute Component equals Yes when configuring a rule.
When specifying segment criteria, you can select more than one segment within a segment group.

Slide 86 - Additional Information for Configure the Display of Your Build Plan with Additional Criteria

Slide notes
Within the Manage Rules dialog, there is a check box called “Default Rule for Drill To”. It is a user preference setting.
If the user has specified a default rule, then the rule is automatically applied when drilling into a build plan from another table. For example, if you selected
orders in supplies and demands and then drilled to build plan, the default rule would be applied to the select item and organization combinations that were
brought in from supplies and demands and you would see the child items that met the criteria specified in the rule.
The default rule for Drill To setting is not applicable when opening Build Plan in standalone mode. When you open build plan using the page-level open
action, there is no context to apply a rule against, so it is necessary to create or select a named criteria. Once root nodes have been selected, then you can
apply a rule.
