Values, Attitudes and Job Satisfaction

As mentioned by Frederick Herzberg, “True motivation comes from achievement,

personal development, job satisfaction, and recognition.” What individuals think and feel
about work, their jobs and organizations in particular, influences not just how they act at
work, but also their overall well-being, which reflects how happy, healthy, and satisfied
they are. How people perceive work is determined by their attitudes and feelings about
work, their occupations, and their organization. In an organization, most individuals
engage with one other to collaborate in making work easier and efficient. Individuals in it
need to work on together by means of having different actions towards the same
situations but can be flexible to finish the job accurately.

Work values and attitudes capture the variety of ideas and feelings that comprise
the work experience. Values may be viewed as generating an ideology that pervades
daily decisions. It has a moral tint to it and hence conveys an individual's beliefs about
what is right, good, or desirable. For instance, workers are less pleased and more
worried when their personal beliefs clash with those of their superiors at work, and such
clashes can have a detrimental impact on one's career. Effective organizations aim to
please their employees because they understand that when employees are happy,
productivity increases.

Whereas, work attitudes such as organizational commitment, job involvement

and job satisfaction are the most important in a workplace. They stand for significant
results that management could desire to improve and a sign of other possible issues,
such low work satisfaction and an employee's plan to leave. Thus, management must
seek to understand the causes and effects of essential work attitudes and improve
employee happiness by arranging the work environment and its accompanying rewards
and recognition to reinforce employees' beliefs and attitudes.

In conclusion, work values and attitudes capture the variety of ideas and feelings
that comprise the work experience. Because work values are more solid and
long-lasting, they can have a significant impact on work attitudes and, as a result,
employee job satisfaction. Thus, employees who are satisfied are less likely to quit or be
absent from work, have less stress, and perform better.
