4 Fatal Mistakes Chess Players Make Which

Keeps Them at the Same Soul Crushing

Rating!

A lot of chess players take an amazing start. A

lot of them improve their game to a certain
level/rating. However…
After a while they start stagnating at the same
rating. Now this may be Fide Rating, USCF
Rating or Lichess/Chess.com.

In such a situation most players blame their

family situation, limited resources,bad coaches
or worst of all having less time.
BUT…
The truth of the matter is, NONE of that stuff
really matters and doesn’t prevents them from
going forward.

What really stops them are the 4 Fatal Mistakes

Chess Players Make Which Keeps Them at the
Same Soul Crushing Rating!
So let’s start…

ATTENTION!
BEFORE YOU READ A SINGLE WORD
FIRST LET ME GIVE YOU A WORD OF
WARNING!
THESE 4 FATAL MISTAKES ARE NOT LIKE
THE 100’S OR EVEN 1000’S OF CHESS
RULES OR ADVICES OUT THERE WHICH
PROVIDE GENERALISED CLAIMS AND
PROVIDE NO REAL IMPROVEMENT.
SO PLZ TAKE THESE 4 FATAL MISTAKES
VERY SERIOUSLY AS THIS COULD BE
YOUR BIG BREAK INTO THE
PROFESSIONAL CHESS WORLD.
Mistake 1:- Thinking that you chess strength is
higher than your rating

Most chess players think that their actual

chess strength is more than what their current
rating is…
Well now this may be true for 0.1% of the players.
However for most players thinking like this is a huge
mistake.
An important thing to understand is if you really
deserved a higher rating you would have achieved it
already.
So if you have not yet achieved the rating which you
want. Work for it day and night and you will surely
achieve it.
A good way to do this to interact with lot of strong
players and see what qualities they have and you
don’t.
The purpose is not to get demotivated but to
understand your shortcomings and improve them.

Mistake 2:- Quantity VS Quality

Many players are obsessed with the number of

hours they practiced in a day or the number of
puzzles they solved or the number of games
they analysed in a day.
However All strong players know that it is not
about the quantity of work they do but the
QUALITY of efforts involved in the training.
So Train deeply with 100% focus and 0
distractions. Don’t practice before T.V or when
you are not completely into the game.
Mistake 3:- Obsessing with limitless material things

Not just chess players but all human beings

want to get more material posessions
e.g A man who owns a house wants a bigger
house.

And generally society judges our success

based on the material possessions we have.
Unfortunately, this is a huge mistake that most
people make.
I call this the ‘Hedonic treadmill of Death’

This is simply because a man who is simply

running behind prizes or rating or any other
material possession will get a temporary
satisfaction when he achieves it.
However after a while he will feel a ‘sense of
lack’ inside and will be craving for the next big
hit.

So the easiest way to solve this problem is to

forgot about all those material things like
rating(yes,it’s a material),prizes,reputation and
play chess because you truly enjoy to play
chess.
This is known as ‘Eudaimonic Paradigm’ which
means Ultimate Happiness through self
actualisation.
So practice this and you will see massive
change in your games and also as a person.

Mistake 4:- Solving 1000’s of Tactical Puzzles

Well well well….

Now before you say a word and start yelling

through the computer screen.
Let me explain what I mean…
I am certainly not saying that solving tactical
puzzles is bad, however all I am saying is
solving tactics is just one of the ways to
improve in chess and it is NOT the ONLY way
to improve like most online chess coaches and
so called ‘GURUS’ tell you .

Tactics is important but…

More important is to set up a Perfect Thinking
System which can help you in any given
position.
A good way to do this is to copy the thinking
system of a strong player.
See 50-60 Games of a particular player and his
style of play will rub in you and you will start
playing like him (Not the Quality ofcourse but
the style)

So these are few of the Fatal Mistakes which you

should avoid so that instantly boost your game to the
next level.
These techniques have been tried and tested at the
highest levels and have been used by many of my
professional students.

Lastly…
