At the age of twenty-five, he left his wife and children in Stratford, moved to Landon, and started working as an actor and writer at the Globe Theatre. Shakespeare wrote more than thirty plays, and some fine poetry too. He wrote The Tempest in 1611, and it is his only play with an original story — usually Shakespeare retold other people's stories. Shakespeare's plays are still famous all over the world today, and for many people he is the greatest writer in English.
