GENERAL INSTRUCTION (read carefully)

This is the description for the Assessment of module CD214, Operating Systems and Networks,
for the year 2023. This assessment is worth 30% of the total mark for this module. The deadline
for this task is 2nd March 2022. The final report MUST be submitted during class on the 2nd. You
may form a group of TWO (2). Your assignment should be typed using 12-point Times New
Roman font and 1.5 line spacing. Please be reminded that you cannot copy and plagiaries to ease
your way to a final submission. While you may discuss ideas with others, but do not steal. Any
form of plagiarism from other students or from online or offline sources automatically gets zero
mark.

Part A
You need to design a university network with 999 computers/laptops connected to the high-speed
Internet connection. The network must consist of:
 999 computers/laptops to share an Internet connection. 12 printers and 5 scanners to be
shared on the network. Firewall should be included.
 Select a package from local Internet Service Provider and explain why that package was
selected.
 999 computers/laptops need to place in the 3 blocks (A , B & G) with 2 different levels
(Level 1 and Level 2)

1. Draw your complete network design on a diagram. The diagram must show the computers,
Internet connection, and physical layer items (e.g. wires, hub, router, etc, if appropriate). The
diagram should be an original drawing done by you using an appropriate diagramming software.

2. A written description of the diagram including all the equipment connected. For each part of the
network, as shown in your diagram, write a few paragraphs describing the part. (10 Marks)

3. Provide a list of the high-speed Internet connection options in ISP you selected. For each service
option give the web site URL for the company and a sentence or two about what they provide, and
the cost. Then, explain which of the service options that you chose and why (factors such as cost,
speed, availability, firewalls offered, other benefits). – At least 6 to 7 service provider
(10 Marks)

4. What connection media did you choose for the network and why? Provide a complete list of the
possible options. For each option provide a description of how the option works, what hardware
and software you would need to get, and the cost. For each hardware component in each option
provide a picture of the item, its cost, a one or two sentence description of what it does, and the
URL from which you obtained it. Then, explain which connection option you chose and why.

5. The University decided to have their own University website. Select a Domain Name for the
University, describe on the processes that needed for getting a Domain Name. (10 Marks)

6. Now search for the web hosting services that the University can host for their University website.
Give a list 5 web hosting companies that you consider for their services and packages. Then,
explain which of the service options that you chose and why (10 Marks)

7. You are required to do presentation for your work and answer detailed questions from the
lecturer on your work. (10 Marks)

o Cover page of the assignment – (UCSI Logo, subject name and students Name)
o Table of Contents
o Body of your report.
o Introduction, Conclusion (if any)
o Referencing should follow IEEE reference style
