1. “Human rights are not in themselves a source of new competences for the European
Union, but they constitute a well-established source of legally binding obligations as
general principles of the Union’s law.”

2. “The preliminary ruling procedure is an instrument to secure legal unity. The


procedure is all about the relationship between courts and not a direct avenue for
individuals’ action.”

3. “Brexit has ended the membership of the United Kingdom to the European Union and
this has serious consequences for individual rights, including the right of freedom of
