NOV ReedHycalog 16” Pegasus Bit Sets a New Field ROP Benchmark

The NOV ReedHycalog 16” Pegasus

Challenge: The subjected 16” section is a very challenging application of +4,000 ft. interval through highly demonstrated exceptional performance
interbedded lithologies, leading to downhole vibrations and drill string twist-off due to the high torque
generated mainly by the fast variation in the formation compressive strength.
by setting a new ROP record,
outperforming competitors.
Solution: NOV ReedHycalog 16” Pegasus™ as run in combination with Packed Hole BHA to overcome the above
challenges. The Pegasus bit design equipped with 16mm shaped cutters, utilized the latest RH features as dual-diameter
4DX and 5DX cutters and special geometry inserts, to penetrate efficiently through interbedded lithology
with extended durability and enhanced stability. The bit includes advanced hydraulics for optimized performance.

Results:
• The 16” Pegasus drill bit achieved all its run objectives.
• Drilled a total interval of 4,140 ft. in a single run including the drill out.
• Completed the section with an ROP of 71.69 ft/hr which is the new 16” ROP record in subject field.
• An ROP improvement of 13% compared to the best competitor performance; 40% compared to hybrid design.
• Demonstrated the added value of new technology by outperforming competitors’ PDC and hybrid designs.
