A long time ago, there lived on the island of Bali a giant-like creature named Kbo Iwo.
The people of Bali used to say that Kbo Iwo was everything, a destroyer as well as a creator.

Difficulties arose when for the first time the barns were almost empty and the new
harvest was still a long way off. This made Kbo Iwo wild with great anger. In his hunger, he

gave a sign, and the villagers began to throw the limestone they had collected before into the
hole. The limestone made the water inside the hole boiling. Kbo Iwo was buried alive. Then
the water in the well rose higher and higher until at last it overflowed and formed Lake Batur.

One day, a cat and a fox were having a conversation. The fox, who was a
conceited creature, boasted how clever she was. "Why, I know at least a hundred
tricks to get away from our mutual enemies, the dogs," she said.
"I know only one trick to get away from dogs," said the cat. "You should teach
me some of yours!".
"Well, maybe someday, when I have the time, I may teach you a few of the
simpler ones", replied the fox airily.
Just then they heard the barking of a pack of dogs in the distance. The barking
grew louder and louder - the dogs were coming in their direction! At once the cat
ran to the nearest tree and climbed into its branches, well out of reach of any dog.

In Berlin in Germany, pigs sometimes come into the city to look for food. They eat
flowers and plants in parks and gardens. Sometimes they eat vegetables from gardens and
they walk in the street and cause accidents. Some people like the pigs and they give them
food and water to drink. Other people do not like the pigs and they want the government and
the police to stop them entering the city.
In Moscow in Russia, there are 35,000 wild dogs. The dogs live in parks, old houses,

Bat have big ears, furry bodies and wings like leather. They are nocturnal mammals. This means
they sleep in caves and attics during the day and fly out to feed at night-time.
Bats are the only mammals that can fly. They are very fast and acrobatic. When they chase after
insects, they twist and turn in mid-air. Bats use sound to catch insects in the darkness. They send
out high-pitched squeals that human cannot hear. The echoes that bounce back tell the bats exactly
where they will find their prey.
Flying foxes, or fruit bats, are large bats that live in tropical Africa and Asia. They mainly eat fruit.
Flying foxes importan because they help to spread the pollen and seeds of many plants.
