Blue Bottle Jellyfish

President Joe Biden was stung by the


Bluebottle jellyfish while he was strolling
down the beach with his family! Summer is
here and now; Bluebottle Jellyfish are
swarming on the east coast. The jellyfish are
following the warm currents to warmer
territories near Bondi Beach.

The common Bluebottle is less harmful than


other stingers that appear in tropical climates.
They are not deadly but can rarely present
problems for young children, vulnerable
people, or the elderly. Life guard Chris
Salisbury said, “As soon as you’re stung find
and place the part that was stung under
running water as soon as possible.”

Bluebottle jellyfish also known as ‘Portuguese


Man o’War’ or by its scientific name ‘Physalis
utriculus’ are often common, or unwanted
guests in the summer season. They can be
encountered in the summer season on the
east coasts of Australia.

Summer is here so now; Bluebottle Jellyfish


are swarming on the east coast near Bondi
Beach. The common Bluebottle is less harmful
