COLOUR IN CINEMA
Colors convey emotions, it is used to communicate what is not said. It is an important aesthetic
component in any artistic creation. It can either be used to create balance or Chaos. A colour palette
can be set and then broken down to draw attention to something.

Set, props, costumes, makeup, lighting, visual effects, composition are general colour perceptions.

Colour filters are put to create particular mode it serves the character and moves the story forward.
Emotions such as anger, passion, rage, desire, excitement, speed, strength, power, love, aggression,
danger are often represented through colours. Some films are grainy ,de-saturated, others slik,
saturated palletes or monochromatic while others have brown dusty palette.

It is important that both the director and cinematographer understand the thematic elements of the
story and how to enhance it through colour and light.
The colour palette begins a direct visual interpretation of the script that makes it a reality on film,
where it then takes on a subtle character of its own.
As far as the Temperature of a color is concerned, certain colors are generally associated with warmth
and others with cold. Colors like red, orange and yellow are warm colors while blue, green and violet
are cold. The higher the presence of red in a color, the more would be its appeal as a warm color. On
the other hand, addition of blue will make a color appear as a cooler one. Warm colors tend to appear
in the foreground of an image while cooler colors recede into the background. This can be used
effectively to direct the viewer’s eye in the composition. Since cooler colors recede you may decide to
use them for background elements while warm colors make a good choice for elements in the
foreground.
The colour palette can convey a mood or feeling that stays with the viewer after the film has ended.
