Dear Parents/Guardians,

One of the most common reasons for consults in hospitals these days is upper respiratory tract infection (cough
and colds). During the rainy season, a number of diseases occur frequently, one of which is Influenza or
“seasonal flu”. This is a usual cause of school or work absenteeism among students and employees.

Influenza, more commonly called “seasonal flu” or “trangkaso”, is an infectious disease caused by viruses.
Common signs and symptoms are fever, cough and colds, headache, body pains, and weakness. It is an easily
transmitted disease, that sometimes affects all members of the household or spreads to other people in the
workplace. If untreated, some of its complications are pneumonia and bronchitis. Studies show that the annual
influenza vaccine is the single most effective measure for protection against the flu. This year, we will be offering
Vaxigrip Tetra, a quadrivalent flu vaccine that gives broader protection as it protects against four types of flu
viruses.

In partnership with Quick Cross Marketing, DPS is offering an affordable Flu Vaccination Program. This will
help provide protection against the flu and its complications. This is convenient since vaccination will be
administered in school. Aside from the flu vaccine, we will also be offering the following vaccines:
Varicella/Chickenpox, Pneumococcal, Typhoid fever, Tetanus, Diphtheria & Acellular Pertussis (TDAP),
Hepatitis A, Meningococcal and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) for those interested.
