What is the difference between Gaussian Elimination and Gauss-Jordan Eliminations?

If we compare their row-echelon forms, Gauss elimination transforms the augmented

matrix into an upper triangular matrix. While in Gauss-Jordan it transforms the augmented
matrix into an identity matrix.

Answer: No solution

Activity 1

What are the characteristics of the given linear system? How many solutions?

The given linear system can’t have a correct row-echelon form. The given linear system
has no solutions.

Activity 2

What are the characteristics of the given linear system? How many solutions?

The linear system’s row-echelon form is an upper triangular matrix. The system has an
infinite number of solutions.

X1= 2.5
X,2 = -1
X3= 0

Activity 3

What are the characteristics of the given linear system? How many solutions?

The linear system does have a row-echelon form in the form of an upper triangular
matrix. The linear system has 3 solutions.

X1= -4.5714
X,2 = 9.0000
X3= -4.8571

5. Write the linear system:

Sand: 0.52x + 0.20y + 0.25z

Fine Gravel : 0.3x + 0.50y + 0.20z

Coarse Gravel: 0.18x + 0.3y + 0.55z

Given Total
Sand: 4800 m3
Fine gravel: 5800 m3
Coarse gravel: 5700 m3

Sand = 0.52x + 0.20y + 0.25z = 4800

Fine = 0.3x + 0.50y + 0.20z = 5800
Coarse = 0.18x + 0.3y + 0.55z = 5700

Computing these three algebraic equations for values of X, Y, Z

X= 2416.67 m3
Y = 9193.33 m3
Z= 4690 m3

Total volume Required

= sand + fine gravel + coarse gravel

= 4800 + 5800 + 5700

Volume total = 16300

Pit 1 = 2416.67 m3
pit 2= 9193.33 m3
pit 3 = 4690 m3
