SYLLABUS

COURSE: TH3033 ECCLESIOLOGY AND ESCHATOLOGY PERIOD: MAY 2010


LECTURER: VICTOR CHANDA CREDIT HOURS: 3

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is a two part study of the doctrine of the church and of the end times. The former
explores the founding of the church, the life of the church in fellowship, worship, and
ministry. The latter examines various positions n Christian eschatology.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1. To expose the various aspects of the church


2. To expose the student to various models of church government
3. To expose the student to the theological significance of the sacraments
4. To expose the student to the various historical shifts in Christian
eschatology
5. To expose the student to various millennial values in Christian
eschatology
6. Finally to inspire hope in the student as we wait for the appearing of our
great God and Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ.

A. Ecclesiology

I. Introduction
II. Models of the Church
III. Church governments
IV. The church at one local and universal
V. The relationship of the church to the kingdom of God
VI. The mission and destiny of the church

B. Eschatology

I. Introduction
II. Historical perspectives on eschatological thinking
III. Individual eschatology
IV. Millennial views
V. Conclusion

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

There will be two assignments of about 2000 words each, worthy 25% each. One will
relate to the ecclesiology and the other to eschatology.
There will be a final exam worthy 50%

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Some people say Christ is actually present in the Eucharist, while others believe
He is only present symbolically. Discuss in detail these two positions and show
clearly which one you are more comfortable with.

2. Most Pentecostals subscribe to the premillennial, and pretribulational return of


Christ. Kindly analyse this view point paying special attention on the merits and
demerits of this position.
