The great scare

The young math teacher saw the most beautiful woman

he ever and his heart skipped a beat as he realized she caught
his stare. He swore to win the heart of this woman even if he
lost all he had. The next day while the winters snow was
melting, he found out from a close friend that the woman was
the mayor’s fiancée and she just moved in from a faraway
land. The teacher knew the mayor because the mayor hired
him two years ago, and that was the only good thing that
came with meeting the mayor. He was a self-absorbed man
with the mindset of a noble lord, the teacher knew the mayor
wasn’t a good man for the beautiful woman to marry… So, he
decided to scare the mayor into leaving that place and to
prove to the beautiful woman that the mayor was not worthy
of her hand.
He knew that the mayor was a very superstitious man
and that he feared an old story about a hessian commander
who haunted that land after he was beheaded by his own
sword during the Revolutionary war. Also, the old story says
the soldier’s body was buried in this town cemetery and the
teacher knew only a Dutchman passes through the cemetery,
so he decided to initiate a scare to shake the whole town and
to scare the mayor.
The teacher acquired a black horse and an old hessian
soldier uniform, a broken lantern, a carved pumpkin, a dull
and long sword, and an old shovel who he used to dig a hole
into the
ground in the town cemetery so that the mayor will think the
headless soldier arose from his grave.
Two nights later, after he dug the hole undetected by
the Dutchman, he finally decided to start the scare. He
hopped on his black stallion, pot the pumpkin on his head
grabbed the sword and lighted up his lantern so he could see
the road, but no one could see his face and to make the
illusion that he had no head. He stared galloping towards the
small town passing by the Dutchman and scaring him to death
spinning his long scythe above his head while laughing
maniacally and rushing toward the small town. Arriving in the
town everyone saw the headless horseman galloping through
the streets an calling out the mayor’s name, disappearing after
the main’s street corner, leaving for the night.
The next day the whole town feared the headless
horseman and the mayor was livid when he found out the
headless horseman called out his name, so he decided to
leave the town with his soon to be wife, who decided to leave
him because she loved the town, and he showed his true
colors by being such a coward. The teacher was overjoyed by
his feat and decided to tell the beautiful lady he was the
headless horseman. The beautiful lady thanked him for
showing her the mayor’s true colors and decided to give the
math teacher a chance. Two years later the teacher married
the beautiful lady and they lived happily forever after.
