Introduction:
This hand-out is especially designed for vendors who start working with MemoQ. It provides an
explanation for the essentials of MemoQ. It is intended for internal projects and tailored to guide
translators only.

Introduction about MemoQ:


MemoQ is a leading CAT tool, created by Kilgray. This handout will guide vendors through the
different cases needed to complete a translation task. In order to start working on any MemoQ tool,
a linguist must have a licensed version and login credentials in some cases.

How to translate a MemoQ file (.mqxliff, .mqxlz)?
1- Click on the file, it will be opened in MemoQ and a new project’s wizard will appear.
2- Choose create without a template.

3- Fill in the required fields and click on next.

4- If there is a TM sent with the file, import it. If not, create a new one.

5- If there is a TB or glossary sent with the file, import it. If not, click on finish.

6- A new project will be added. Click on the file to start translating.

7- After finalizing translation. Right click on the file to export the bilingual file.

8- If it needs to be save as mqxlz, keep the options as default.


- If it needs to be saved as mqxliff, remove all checks.

How to translate a MemoQ package (.mqout)?
1- Click on it, it will be opened on MemoQ.

2- Fill in the required fields.

3- A new project will be added. Click on the file(s) to start translating.


4- After finalizing translation, click on deliver/return. The package will be saved as.mqback.

How to translate an online MemoQ task?
1- Open MemoQ, click on check out from server.

2- Add the server details sent by the PM, then login with the credentials.
3- Choose the projects as per the PM’s instructions, choose the path in which the project will be
downloaded. Then, click on check out project.

4- A new project will be added. Click on the file(s) to start translating.


5- While working on the translation, synchronize the translation regularly. After finalizing the
translation, click on deliver/return1.

The project will be delivered online and no files will be downloaded.

How to translate Transit package (.ppf)?
1- Open MemoQ, click on import package.

2- Choose the package from the saved location.


3- A wizard will be opened, click on next for two times.

4- Choose all the translation memory attached to the package.


5- Click on finish.
6- A new project will be added. Click on the file(s) to start translating.
7- After finalizing translation, click on export transit package.

7- Choose the path in which the translated package will be saved and ensure checking export for
forwarding. Then, click on OK.

How to translate in MemoQ’s editor?
1- Click on the file that needs to be translated. The editor will be opened.
1- The target column to translate it.
2- The TM and TB matches will appear in this pane.
3- To search in the TM, use this option or Ctrl+K.
4- To confirm a segment, use this option or Ctrl+Enter.
5- To add a comment, click on this bubble.
6- To add the required formatting as per the source segment.
7- To copy source to target.
8- To insert tags.
9- To find and replace within a file or the project.

How to analyze a file/project within MemoQ?
1- Open the project’s home. Click on statistics.

2- A new window will be opened.


1- Choose the scope of the analysis.
2- Choose this option to analyze the file against project’s TM(s).
3- Click on calculate. The results will appear below.
4- Export the results, if needed.

How to run QA in MemoQ?
1- Open the project’s home.
2- Right click on the selected file(s). Choose tasks < run QA.

3- A new window will be opened.
1- Choose the QA scope.
2- Check this option and choose the path for the exported html report, if needed.

4- A new window will opened contains the QA results. In this window, errors can be fixed or
ignored.
