COUNSELLOR: Good afternoon. How are you?

Client: Well I am okay (appears dull). Yeah, I am fine (visibly not satisfied)
COUNSELLOR: Is everything alright?
Client: Well what to say (appears uncomfortable). Sometimes work may not happen what we think
and plan.
COUNSELLOR: Alright (pauses)…It would be great if you could explain why you feel in that way.
(leans forward and appears attentive) and it will help me to understand what you are going through
at this moment.
Client: Of late I am feeling uncomfortable working here (tells in a sad tone and pauses for few
seconds).
COUNSELLOR: Oh is it? (appears surprised). What happened?
Client: I am not productive. Feel tired and stressed out at the end of the day (emphasizes and pauses
for a few seconds)
COUNSELLOR: Oh. You feel tired and stressed (pauses for a few seconds)
Client: Yeah…
COUNSELLOR: That’s bad (shows concern)
Client: Its not just that. I am unable to spend time for myself (emphasizes)
COUNSELLOR: Oh is it? (appears surprised).
Client: Yeah (appears worried).
COUNSELLOR: Could you tell me what do you think are the reasons for these concerns? (Remains
leaning forward and appears interested to listen to the client)
Client: I m bit apprehensive to explain the issue (appears anxious)…hope this interaction is
confidential (leans forward)
COUNSELLOR: Yes I will definitely keep this interaction confidential unless there are no legal
implications.
Client: Ok alright. Understood. Of late I am burdened with lot of work by my superior. It is at the
toxic levels. (stresses). Why I should be burdened with others work? I am not getting paid for their
work. They enjoy all the luxury but I am exploited. Why such a discrimination in work allotment? It
takes a lot of space from my personal and family time. It is significantly impacting my physical and
mental health. I have reached to a point where I cannot take more and I am thinking putting my
papers. (tells in an aggressive tone with high volume)
COUNSELLOR: Thank you for sharing your concerns. I really appreciate for bringing these issues to
my notice. I am really sorry that you are having a lot of burden which you should not be having
which is negatively impacting you. I will definitely look into this issue. But I want to ask you what
can be changed to address your concerns?
Client: It would be good if you talk to my superior on equal work allocation or improve the work
culture among the colleagues who may need some sessions. If additional work is allocated then
accordingly the company has to pay me. Otherwise it is very unfair and an exploitation.
COUNSELLOR: anything else that you would like to share with me that you haven’t spoken?
Client: That’s all from side (appears relieved)
COUNSELLOR: ok alright. Thank you for sharing your concerns. I will need one more session to have
better understanding of your problems. I will get back to you on this. Thank you. Have a great day
(smiles).
Client: Thanks for listening. Have a great day to you too (smiles).
