Why & How to Become a Church Member

ARE YOU CALLED TO MEMBERSHIP?

If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ who has attended Aims community church regularly for at least three
months, we invite you to consider become a member. As a member, you will participate in the decision-making processes
of this congregation, vote at church business meetings, and help support and develop the ministries of Aims Community
Church.

Why membership?

We recognize that formal membership is not mentioned in scripture. It’s just our way of getting things done, staying
organized, and staying accountable. It’s a helpful tool to develop, improve, organize, and facilitate the ministry of the
church.

Membership is primarily an organizational and administrative tool. It helps us to know who we can count on to participate
in the Lord’s work here in Aims as we reach out into our community.

Membership is also a mutual accountability covenant. It helps us all to know who we can count on to hold us to the
standards of Christ.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

 Talk to the Pastor or an Elder.

 Fill out a membership application.
 If you have previously been a member of another Christian church, we will contact that church to request a
reference or membership transfer.
 The pastor and elders will request to meet with you. We will discuss how you came to know Christ, how your life
now reflects your salvation, how you see yourself serving in the congregation, and other thoughts about life as a
believer. We will also share how this church functions as the Body of Christ.
 The elders make a recommendation on the approval of your membership.
 Membership is approved by a vote at the next congregational business meeting.
 You are publicly welcomed into the fellowship at the next regular worship service and presented with a
membership certificate.

as described in Matthew 18:15-20.
