4 Equipment Installation
This section will highlight the techniques required to ensure proper installation of the following:
The DPRM is equipped with 4 metal clips that mate to the antenna. Before installing the DPRM on the
antenna, ensure that the O-ring on the antenna nose is lubricated with O-ring lubricant supplied with
the radio. Prior to attaching the metal clips to the back of the antenna, seat the circular waveguide
opening of the DPRM over the mating circular waveguide opening on the antenna.
The Harmony Enhanced is equipped with 2 metal clips that mate to the DPRM base plate. Before
installing the radio ensure that the O-ring on the DPRM nose is lubricated with O-ring lubricant supplied
with the radio. Prior to attaching the metal clips to the back of the DPRM, seat the circular waveguide
opening on the radio over the mating circular waveguide opening on the
DPRM.
To ensure a flush connection, it is recommended that the two side clips OR top and bottom clips
(depending on desired orientation) are connected at the same time. To prevent jamming, seat the clips
and tighten at the same time.
For both Machined and Cast versions of the DPRM, the Enhanced ODUs must be installed such that
1) The polarization indicator on each port of the DPRM matches the polarization indicator on
the ODUs
2) The DPRM is installed with the ODUs in a side by side position. Side 1 will be Vertical
polarization, Side 2 will be Horizontal polarization
3) The cable entry points are accessible, at the end opposite of the waveguide port, and not
pointing up. **This is important to lessen the chance of water ingress**
Due to the orientation differences between the Machined and Cast versions of the DPRM, certain radio
orientation may not be available. DragonWave-X recommends the following Enhanced Radio Orientation for
the Machined DPRM

The ODU to ODU interconnect cable is required for both 2+0 and XPIC operation. Essential communication
data as well as user traffic will be transferred between the Harmony Enhanced radios over the ODU to ODU
cable. Proper installation of the cable is crucial to ensure stable system performance.
1) Unscrew the cable sealing nut from the connector housing. This will allow the cables sealing
nut, cable compression seal and connector housing to move freely on the cable as required.
Counter Clockwise
Counter Clockwise
3) Disassemble the ODU expansion cable cap from the Enhanced housing using a flat head
screwdriver
4) Insert the SFP connector into the expansion port of the Enhanced radio. A tactile click should
be felt when the connector is fully seated.
5) Move the Coupling Nut so that the SFP Cage Release passes inside and through the
coupling nut and hand tighten the coupling nut into the threaded SFP connector port. The
large O-ring should not be compressed at this point.
6) Turn the coupling nut another ½ rotation to compress the large O-ring against the base of the
Harmony Enhanced radio housing. Take care not to over tighten the coupling nut. O-ring
must maintain even compression around the surface of the Enhanced radio housing.
7) Confirm the large O-ring has compressed tightly against the Harmony Enhanced radio
housing
8) With the small O-ring in position on the coupling nut, screw the connector housing on to the
coupling nut. Tighten the coupling nut until it mates against the connector housing. There
should be NO VISIBLE GAP BETWEEN THE COUPLING NUT AND CONNECTOR
HOUSING.
9) Place the cable compression seal on the tail end of the connector housing and tighten the
cable sealing nut to the connector housing. To ensure a proper seal, the cable sealing nut
should mate tightly with the connector housing.
10) Refer to sections 5.1.3 and 5.1.4 for proper radio orientation. The connectors must exit
horizontally or down. The connector should never exit the radio pointing up. Incorrect
cable positioning may result in water ingress to the radio.
Special care must be taken when removing the ODU to ODU cable from the Enhanced radio to avoid
damaging the SFP connector or the SFP cage inside the Enhanced radio.
The SFP connector of the ODU cable is equipped with a cage release tab. The cage release will disengage
the SFP connector from the SFP cage in the radio allowing for easy removal. Failure to follow the following
instruction may result in damage to the SFP connector and/or cage.
To release, push the ODU cable firmly towards the Enhanced radio and at the same time pull the cage
release tab. Next, pull both the cable release and cable away from the Enhanced radio.
XPIC (cross-polarization interference cancelling) allows for the same transmit and receive frequencies to be
used on both vertical and horizontal polarity. In this configuration, both vertical and horizontal radios are
attached to a dual-polarized antenna with the use of a DPRM (dual polarity radio mount).
The XPIC system is designed to remove interference from the opposite polarity based on information
gathered from the partner radio over the interconnect cable.
The amount of Cross Polarization Interference will be displayed as an XPI value. These values should be as
large a negative number as the link
will support.
Based on the XPI chart above, the system would need to maintain a minimal XPI value of -23 on both sides
of the link in order to sustain 2048qam modulation. If the XPI value drops below this level on either side of
the link, the modulation will not be maintained and data loss may occur.
It is critical that the radios and antennas are level and plumb in relation to each other, on both sides of the
link to ensure optimal performance and error free operation. Failure to do so will result in lower than expected
XPI values which could lead to poor performance or link failure.

port 2 and 3 support multi-mode or
single-mode (SX/LX) fiber SFP’s.
Once all the cables have been positioned, ensure that the cable
enclosure has been properly aligned prior to fastening the four cable
enclosure screws
Once the first screw has been attached, make any necessary adjustments
to ensure that the cables and plastic plugs are seated properly and
tighten remaining screws by 2 to 3 turns.
Ensure that all 4 screws are fully “hand tightened” and the entire
perimeter of the enclosure is properly sealed against the radio housing.
Fully inspect the cable/plug connections to ensure proper
weatherproofing.
4.4.2 Outdoor Power Injector P+E Cabling Installation – 2 Port Model T555PIDO-02
DC Power Cabling
Ethernet Cabling
A “drip” loop is always required for cabling coming to/from the ODU
Strain-relief is also required for any cabling coming to/from the ODU
The location of the rack housing the surge arrestor must be as close as
possible to the entry point of the shielded Ethernet and power cables (if DC
powered).
Ethernet Cabling
• All Ethernet cabling entering the ODU cable enclosure and
the Ethernet Power surge arrestor must be properly
grounded. Ensure cable shield/drain wire makes contact
with the metallic RJ45 headshell.
Note: If necessary thin copper tape can be used to keep the drain wire in
place before crimping the RJ45 connector in place.
Power Cabling
Ensure that the drain wire of the DC power cable (at the
ODU) is connected to the chassis screw of the Enhanced
enclosure.
7 Link Alignment
1. Alignment Preparation
• Ensure that the path is free of obstructions
2. Site A – Alignment
• Perform a full horizontal alignment on site A
(entire 35° range) and tighten lock nuts once
max RSL has been attained
3. Site B – Alignment
• Perform a full horizontal alignment on site B
(entire 35° range) and tighten lock nuts once
max RSL has been attained
