ba6a tips and tricks

output xlr ground lift circuit

BA6A GROUND LIFTS - an essential addition

output xlr SPST SW
the BA6A can be very finicky about interfacing with modern-
soundcards etc . rear view (solder
side)
use these ground lifts on the input and output xlr
to eliminate the hum and buzz from these interface issues .
2 1 1 MEG / .5W
the output lift circuit is different then the input lift
circuit so take note .
3 .1@200V FILM
use a spst switch in tandem with these as the lift positions
can vary .

for example : one interface issue might prefer output lifted

and input straight to ground . etc.

to put the ba6a at a usable output volume for modern recording , it is a good idea to pad the output from the get go .

for the output configuration we will use the pad shown in the awa schematic of their ba6a type compressor.

then followed by the mallory T600 15 watt “t” attenuator

the 10 db pad consists of two 330 ohm resistors and one 470 ohm resistor .

it is best to use 10 watt and a 15w shunt resistor for this .

YOU MUST NOT GROUND THE HEATER

CENTER TAP . (of the power transformer)

do not ground the center

install R61 / R62

this will DC elevate the

121R for 20db
use 5 watt resistors 422R for 10db the values can be +/- 10%
220R for 15db for example a 491R resistor
can be a 500R resistor that is more
available .

USE 10W AND A 15W SHUNT RESISTOR !

mallory T-600 attenuator

instaling the mallory t600 attenuator (Cornell Dubilier T600)

this “T” attenuator has the right capability to handle the

output wattage of the BA6A . connect the output transformer

red red wire here.
and should be the only output attenuator you use besides a DAVEN type.

you can find them on ebay .

if using a fixed or switched pad , install the T-600 after the pad/switch. and the output transformer green .

use this diagram to connect .

warning ! if you use a smaller attenuator , it will melt under the output of the
ba6a. connect the xlr out socket pin

500HZ compressor response filter
----------------------------------------
not reccomended.

this circuit will enable the ba6a to only compress

by frequencies above 500HZ

or

the normal compressor response frequency.

replace C14 and C15 with this switch set up .

this circuit will carry aprox 300V so use wire

and a switch rated for this high voltage area. P

use this setup when interfacing with high impedance sources such as modern sound cards etc .

this setup in tandem with the xlr pin 1 ground lifts with virtually eliminate ANY hum or noise due to
interfacing issues .

shown here is the jensen JT-11P-1 you may use almost any 1:1 transformer
