THE SLIDING DEVICE

Skills: observe, develop a hypothesis, realize the project, verify and transfer.
Area: structures and mechanisms.
Starting point: conceiving and creating an object with a particular performance.

OBSERVATION

Just like robinhood from Disney, you would like to slide a device along a string in the
classroom. Imagine you could take back the money stolen from the inhabitants of
Nottingham!

To succeed, you can imagine a technological system that will allow the device to move
along the string, on a distance of 5 meters, without manipulating it directly.

Be careful!
- The device will have to slide along 5 meters without stopping and in 1 minute time
maximum.
- You will need to repeat the experience 3 times in a row with 1 minute of preparation
maximum in between each time.

With the help of an annotated schema, you have to reformulate the challenge that was
given to you.
DEVELOPMENT OF A HYPOTHESIS
1. Individually, draw, describe and explain 1 project with a technological system that
would be successful in this challenge.
2. In groups of .......... students, work again on the ideas and select. Then, draw, describe
and explain THE solution that will be elaborated.
3. Provide 2 reasons justifying your choice.

REALIZATION

1. Still in groups of ............, you prepare a « small oral presentation » to explain to the
classroom the details of your project. You can help yourselves with a material of your
choice and use the smartboard as well to illustrate your thoughts and schema. The
presentation must last 5 minutes maximum and each group member must speak.

2. The specific construction can start.
