Nosewheel Steering Schematic After the nose gear indicates down and locked prior to landing, pressing the NOSE WHL STEERING switchlight illuminates the ARMED light. In-flight, pressing the red AP/TRIM/NWS DISC button does not disarm nosewheel steering With the system armed and the nose gear squat switch indicating that the aircraft is on the ground the ARMED light extinguishes, and the ON light illuminates and the valve deenergizes open. FOR TRAINING PURPOSES ONLY Upon touchdown, the nose gear squat switch opens a solenoid valve, allowing the nose- wheel steering accumulator to provide pres- sure to the steering system if the hydraulic system fails. The accumulator, which is in the nose equipment area, has a solenoid bleed valve that allows checking of the nitrogen precharge during preflight inspection. The valve is powered from the hot battery bus and is operated by a pushbutton switch (Figure 14-10) next to the oxygen filler port in the nose equipment bay. 14-9 PE FA
