Executive Summary

Access to clean water is essential for human survival, yet millions of people worldwide

still lack this basic necessity. The Water Inc Project is a company dedicated to providing

affordable clean water solutions to communities around the globe. However, the company needs

to change its approach to meet the increasing demand for clean water in a cost-effective and

sustainable way. This report recommends three potential courses of action that vary in scale,

complexity, and cost, each with a projected budget and implementation plan. The suggested

option for The Water Inc Project is to implement water filtration kits. The reasoning behind this

is the ease of implementation and the affordability of the solution. This is easily manageable for

the community to maintain as well, and doesn’t need any additional maintenance or assistance

from The Water Inc.

Introduction

Clean water is a fundamental human need, yet it is still out of reach for millions of people

worldwide. The Water Inc Project is a company that aims to address this issue by providing

affordable and sustainable water solutions to communities in need. This company, however, still

needs to adapt its approach to meet the increasing demand for clean water and overcome various

challenges such as high costs, lack of infrastructure, and environmental concerns (The Water Inc,

2022). This report will analyze the company's current situation and provide recommendations on

all different price points for change.

Goal Summary

The Water Inc Project aims to provide clean water access to communities worldwide at

an affordable price while ensuring sustainable use of resources. The company's main goals are to

provide clean water access to communities in need, reduce the cost of providing clean water

solutions, ensure sustainable and environmentally friendly use of resources, increase awareness

about the importance of clean water and sustainable water use (The Water Inc, 2022).

Company Overview

The Water Inc. Project is a non-profit organization that provides clean water solutions to

communities in need around the world. The company operates through partnerships with local

organizations and government agencies to implement water projects that meet the specific needs

of each community. The company's solutions include drilling wells, building rainwater

harvesting systems, constructing water storage facilities, and implementing water treatment

plants (The Water Inc, 2022)..

Recommendations

For the first recommendation, we can collect rainwater. Rainwater harvesting systems

can be an effective solution for communities with limited access to clean water. The systems

collect and store rainwater for later use, reducing the reliance on other water sources such as

rivers or groundwater. The cost of implementing rainwater harvesting systems varies depending

on the size and complexity of the system. A small system can cost as little as $500, while a larger

system can cost up to $10,000 (Gleick, P.H., 1998). Implementation of rainwater harvesting

systems requires minimal disruption, and the systems can be maintained by the community

themselves.

The next solution that I have are water filtration kits. Water filtration kits are portable and

affordable solutions that can provide clean drinking water to communities in need. The kits use

various filtration methods such as ceramic filters, activated carbon, and UV sterilization to

remove impurities from water. The cost of implementing water filtration kits is relatively low,

ranging from $50 to $500, depending on the size and type of the kit (WHO, 2022).

Implementation of water filtration kits requires minimal disruption, and the kits can be easily

maintained by the community themselves.

Finally, the last recommendation I have is a water treatment plant. A community-based

water treatment plant is a centralized solution that can provide clean water access to an entire

community. The plant treats and disinfects water from a nearby source such as a river or well,

making it safe for consumption. The cost of implementing a community-based water treatment

plant varies depending on the size and complexity of the plant. A small plant can cost around
Vail 6

$10,000, while a larger plant can cost up to $500,000 (CDC, 2022). Implementation of a water

treatment plant can be disruptive and may require significant investment in infrastructure and

human resources. However, once established, the plant can provide a sustainable and cost-

effective solution for the community.

Suggested Recommendation

After careful consideration of the three recommendations, the best option for The Water

Inc Project is to implement water filtration kits. The main reason for this is the affordability of

these kits, which would allow for a wider distribution to more communities in need.

Additionally, the low cost of implementation and minimal disruption make this a practical

solution that can be easily maintained by the community themselves. While rainwater harvesting

systems are also a viable option, the cost of implementing a larger system can be prohibitive for

some communities. Additionally, the effectiveness of rainwater harvesting systems can be

limited to areas with low rainfall or inconsistent rainfall patterns. A community-based water

treatment plant, while providing a sustainable solution, requires a significant investment in

infrastructure and human resources, making it less feasible for smaller communities (CDC,

2022). Water filtration kits, on the other hand, provide a portable and affordable solution that can

be easily distributed to multiple communities in need. These kits can be customized to meet the

specific needs of the community and can be used to treat water from various sources.

Additionally, the use of multiple filtration methods ensures a high level of effectiveness in

removing impurities from water. In terms of implementation, water filtration kits can be easily

distributed to communities through local organizations and NGOs. These organizations can

provide education and training on how to use and maintain the kits, ensuring their long-term
Vail 7

effectiveness. The cost of implementation can also be offset through partnerships with corporate

sponsors or fundraising efforts (WHO, 2022).

Conclusion

In conclusion, providing access to clean water at an affordable price is a fundamental

human need that remains a challenge for many communities worldwide. The best option for The

Water Inc Project is to implement water filtration kits due to their affordability, practicality, and

effectiveness. The implementation of this solution would be easy, cost-effective, and would

provide a portable solution that can be easily maintained by the community themselves. This is

an essential step towards achieving the company's goals of providing sustainable and affordable

water solutions.
