Chapter 3 Equipment Design Data 3. 5 Electrical specifications and wiring layout
1 Precautions for connection of electrical wiring
(1) Power supply voltage
The power supply voltage must comply with the rated voltage.
Too high or too low power supply voltage will affect the normal operation of the
equipment. When you operate this machine, the voltage variation must be restricted to
less than ±10% of the rated voltage, and the voltage inter-phase unbalance must be
restricted to less than 2%.
(2) Electrical wiring
Notice that the displayed output of compressor motor is different from the actual
operating output. Power consumption and operating current of water chiller unit will vary
with the operating conditions and the load rate. The capacity of transformer varies with
the operating conditions. To connect the auxiliary equipment such as cold water and
cooling water circulating pumps, please make choices according to the power
consumption and operating current of the auxiliary equipment.
(3) Power supply connection
Please respectively connect the phases R, S, T, and MP of the power supply to the R, S,
T, and MP phases of the power supply terminal block (TB1) correctly.
To connect the power supply, an alarm will be given if reverse phase or phase loss is
detected.
(4) Earth wire
The earth wire must be connected.
There are ground wire connecting screws nearby the power supply terminal block of
electric component box of the water chiller unit. Please entrust an electrician with
corresponding qualification to connect the ground wire.
(5) Power supply circuit
The power supply circuit must be equipped with a leakage circuit breaker (ELB (with
leakage protection and short circuit, overload protection functions)).
When a leakage protection special ELB or leakage relay is used on the earth leakage
protector, as a short circuit and overload protection device, it is necessary to additionally
set a combination of overcurrent circuit breaker (FFB) or fuse and manual switching
device. When the circuit breaker or the manual switching device is remote from the
water chiller unit, the manual switching device shall be additionally installed in a
easy-to-operate position (a position from which the water chiller unit can be seen)
Please refer to the electrical wiring capacity table for the capacity of each protection
device. Please select the protection device with a rated capacity corresponding to the
device as per the rated capacity of each device.
(6) Pump wiring
The water chiller unit can output operating signals (no voltage contacts) for starting or
stopping cold water, cooling water circulation pumps, and cooling towers. In addition,
please enter the pump feedback signal into the water chiller unit. Otherwise, it is not
possible to operate the water chiller unit. When you operate the compressor without
starting the cold water pump, the cold water in the evaporator will freeze and damage
the evaporator, so a pump interlock circuit is provided. In addition, when the water
temperature rises due to heating of cold water, cooling water circulation pump or pipe
38
Chapter 3 Equipment Design Data 3. 5 Electrical specifications and wiring layout
friction, it is possible to automatically stop the operation of the pump. Therefore, never
fail to securely connect the interlock circuit of cooling water and cooling-water pumps.
(7)Power supply at the shutdown of the water chiller unit
Do not cut off the power supply when the chiller is shut down. In addition, to restart the
unit after trial run or long-term switch-off of power supply, the power supply shall be
turned on 12 hours before the start of operation.
To shut down the water chiller unit, please automatically power on the oil heater to
prevent the refrigerant from being entrained into the refrigerator oil of the compressor.
Once the refrigerant is entrained into the refrigerator oil, the compressor might be poorly
lubricated

As shown in the figure above, connect the operation wiring of the pump and the pump
interlock wiring.
(Note) 1. Never fail to enter the pump interlock type; otherwise, it is impossible to
operate the water chiller unit.
2. When multiple sets are set up, the interlock signals must be entered into each
water chiller unit.
3. To run multiple water chiller units using one water pump, the pump operation
signals (master pumps) of all chiller units can be output when the system is
running. At this time, just connect the wiring of water chiller unit #1. (Please
connect interlock wiring onto all sub-machines.)
In addition, please connect the pump interlock wiring of the master pump
according to the "Recommended Connection Method" shown in figure below.
