Elements of Art
Artists can apply the seven elements of art in numerous different ways – and they
do not have to utilize them in conjunction or simultaneously – to create artworks
that are visually appealing and/or expressive. Art elements can apply to almost all
types of artworks, including painting, drawing, graphic design, or any other form
of visual composition. Elements of art are:
 Line
 Form
 Space
 Colour
 Tone/value
 Texture

Wheatfield with Crows

Artist:Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who
posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western
art history. Wheat Field with Crows, painted in July of 1890, is one of Van Gogh's
paintings of the fields surrounding Auvers-sur-Oise and is frequently believed to
be his last painting after which he commited suicide.
Post impressionist artist mostly use vivid colors, a thick application of paint and
real-life subject matter, but were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms,
distort forms for an expressive effect and use unnatural and seemingly random
colors.
Jagged lines in the above painting shows the anxiousness of the painter
numerous strokes that shows the restlessness. Repeated strokes are giving the sense
of texture. The color palate contain both warm and cool colors. The colors are
vivid yet dark. The way Van Gogh used value of colors to show the dephth and
distance in painting. In this painting all the forms are made by lines and strokes.
The painting overall is giving me a dark vibe a discomfort which is contraray to the
scene of bright wheatfields.
