1. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this course is to make student
• Understand the materials and their properties along with manufacturing
considerations.
• Gain knowledge about the strength of machine elements.
• Understand and apply the knowledge in designing the riveted and welded joints,
keys, cotters and knuckle joints.
• Understand and apply the knowledge in designing the shafts and shaft couplings.
• Understand and apply the knowledge in designing the mechanical springs.

2. COURSE OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, students will gain the ability to:
• Judge about materials and their properties along with manufacturing
considerations.
• Gain knowledge about the strength of machine elements.
• Apply the knowledge in designing the riveted and welded joints, keys, cotters
and knuckle joints.
• Apply the knowledge in designing the shafts and shaft couplings.

7. PRE-REQUISITES, IF ANY:

As this is a fifth semester course, the student is expected to bring together


foundational knowledge from a number of courses up to their fourth semester
undergraduate experience. Specifically, the student is expected to apply:
• Basic Principles of Engineering Science, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanics of
Solids, Metallurgy, Machine Drawing & Theory of Machines.

9. CONTINUOUS EVALUATION PROCEDURE


• The performance of a student shall be evaluated for 100 marks in the subject
“Kinematics of machinery”. As per the JNTUK Curriculum, the distribution will be
30 marks for internal evaluation and 70 marks for the end examination.
• Out of 30 internal marks – 15 marks are assigned for subjective exam, 10 marks
for objective “on-line” exam and 5 marks for assignments.

10. ASSIGNMENTS AND TUTORIALS QUESTIONS


Assignments on various units both in the form of objective and descriptive type will be
given to students during the coursework and these assignments will be corrected with
suggestions. The student performance on these assignments will also be considered
during evaluation procedures.
