Abstract (optional) Phase Change Material (PCM) has the ability to absorb and to release a
large amount of energy during the process of transforming physical
properties (phase transition process). This is why PCM is highly
suitable for building thermal energy storage and reducing energy
consumption. This study was carried out to assess the basic material
properties and thermal behavior of fly ash foam concrete mixed with
PCM to identify the contribution of PCM to foam concrete mixtures.
The PCM material has shown great potential to reduce the heating and
cooling load. The result showed that PCM foam concrete has some
useful characteristics such as better thermal performance and latent
heat storage. Different types of PCMs are tested in order to determine
the influence of PCM when incorporated into foam concrete at its fresh
and hardened stages. The result revealed that PCMs can reduce indoor
temperature fluctuations and exhibit the potential for enhancing energy
savings and thermal comfort of buildings.
