Answer
1. Culture shock can happen when a person moves to another city or country, and it
occurs when they become aware of the differences and/or conflicts in values and
customs between their home culture and the new culture they are in . It can also occur
when someone is suddenly subjected to an unfamiliar culture and way of life, and is a
common phenomenon for people living far from home in unexpected surroundings.
Generally, culture shock occurs during the initial period of adjustment when someone
is adapting to a new culture.

2. The honeymoon period refers to a relatively brief period at the beginning of a new
relationship, activity, or pursuit when everything goes well and seems to be free of
problems. It is a time when people are infatuated with each other and everything feels
exciting. The term can also refer to a period of popularity enjoyed by a new
government or a new occupant of a post. In finance, it can refer to a relatively brief
period when a new loan has a low introductory interest rate that features prominently
in advertising. The length of time for the honeymoon period can vary, but it usually
lasts from six months to two years.

3. Here are some examples of differences in Indonesian and international table manners:
1. In Indonesia, it is considered good manners to use your right hand when eating, as
the left hand is reserved for other activities such as cleaning oneself. In some other
cultures, it is considered rude to use your left hand while eating.
2. In Indonesia, it is considered polite to leave a small amount of food on your plate
to show that you are full. In some other countries, finishing everything on your
plate is seen as a sign of appreciation for the food.
3. In Indonesia, it is common to eat using a spoon and fork, with the spoon in the
right hand and the fork in the left hand, both held with the tines facing

downwards. In some other countries, it is common to eat with chopsticks or with

the hands, and the proper way of holding utensils may differ.

4. Three examples where stereotypes turned to hatred that caused cultural conflict:
1. The Rwandan Genocide: The Hutu majority in Rwanda had long held negative
stereotypes of the Tutsi minority, portraying them as arrogant and exploitative.
These stereotypes eventually led to the 1994 genocide, in which an estimated
800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed by Hutu extremists.
2. The Holocaust: The Nazis propagated negative stereotypes of Jews, portraying
them as greedy, deceitful, and responsible for Germany's economic woes. These
stereotypes eventually led to the Holocaust, in which six million Jews were
systematically murdered.
3. Islamophobia: Negative stereotypes of Muslims have become increasingly
prevalent in Western societies since the 9/11 attacks. Muslims have been
portrayed as terrorists, misogynists, and intolerant of other cultures. These
stereotypes have led to discrimination, hate crimes, and a rise in anti-Muslim
sentiment.

5. Analyse from video:

1. Shouldn’t have had that second glass when everyone else had only half an inch
just for taste.
2. Take only a small spoonful of the best dish until everyone had a helping.
3. Don't criticize the food in front of the maker and ruin the taste.
