November 15 – 17, 2021
I. RATIONALE
In schools, action research refers to a wide variety of evaluative, investigative, and analytical
research methods designed to diagnose problems or weaknesses. It may be organizational,
academic or instructional. The emergence of action research has been considered a key element to
the development and improvement of learning and teaching in the classroom. Doing action research
helps teachers to grow professionally, and to show they are extending their own professional
knowledge. In addition to this, teachers can identify the criteria, or standards that they and others
are using to judge the quality of what they are doing.
Action research is more like a cyclical process, with the reflection upon action and research
findings affecting changes in teacher’s practice, which may lead to extended questions and further
action. This brings back to the essential steps of action research: identifying the problem, devising
an action plan, implementing the plan, and finally, observing and reflecting upon the process.
Addressing training needs of teachers in making action research is important because it can help
them to become better at planning and being organized by following the right process in making
action research. Learning how to write action research empowers teachers to own professional
knowledge because they will be able to learn to apply knowledge.
With this regard, the Social Studies Department of Alabat Island National High School will
undergo training workshop to develop and enhance their skills in writing action research and to
