The Cinco de Noviembre revolution led by the forces of Aniceto Lacson from the north and Juan Araneta

from the south was a culmination of secret planning by sugar barons and sugar workers to overthrow
the Spanish rule on the Negros Island.

The revolt began in central and northern Negros in the morning of November 5 and had spread to other
towns by afternoon.

On the next day, the revolutionaries and delegation from the Spanish government signed the Act of
Capitulation, ending the Spanish rule in the province.

The uprising resulted in the establishment of the Negros Republic, which united Negros Occidental and
Negros Oriental.
