a. Remove the bucket.

1. Start the engine. Park machine on a hard, level surface.

2. Drain the oil from each final drive into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to
Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil - Change".

3. Remove two bolts (1). Attach Tooling (H) to hold planetary gear assembly from falling. Remove
remaining bolts (1) from cover assembly (2).

4. Use Tooling (A) to remove cover assembly (2). Make sure that the planetary assembly does not
slide outward when cover assembly (2) is being removed. This will keep contamination out of
planetary gears.

Illustration 5 g02458360

5. The planetary gear group is being held onto the sprocket housing at this timenow only by
Tooling (H). The approximate weight of the planetary group is 163 kg (360 lb). Be careful not to
allow the planetary gear group to slide outward.

6. Remove bolts (3) and ring gear (4) from cover assembly (2). Apply Tooling (K) onto cover
assembly (2). Install the cover assembly (2) onto the final drive. Install bolts (1), and tighten to
hold oil in the final drive. Fill final drive with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual,
"Final Drive - Oil Change".

7. Adjust the height of Tooling (D) so that Tooling (C) can be installed through the end of the stick,
as shown. Make sure that Tooling (C) is centered under the end of the stick.
Note: Make sure the height of Tooling (C) is the same height as the lower boom cylinder pin
assembly.

8. Disconnect grease hose assembly (5). Remove bolts (6) and plate (7).

Illustration 8 g02458380

9. Attach a suitable lifting device to boom cylinder (8). The weight of boom cylinder (8) is
approximately 315 kg (695 lb). Using Tooling (J) drive pin (9) inward to clear cylinder. Remove

boom cylinder (8).

10. Adjust the length of Tooling (B) and install Tooling (B) in place of the right-hand boom cylinder.
The weight of Tooling (B) is approximately 332 kg (732 lb). Be sure to use five bolts, five
washers, and five nuts to hold Tooling (B) together. Install plate (7) and bolts (6) to hold Tooling
(B) on machine.

11. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.

Illustration 10 g02458416

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under

pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.

To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the

work tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing),
travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before
any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or
removed.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the
filler cap is cool enough to touch.

14. Position Tooling (G1) and Tooling (E) under the main frame, ahead of counterweight (14). Refer
to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1328 , "Lift Groups (Stand - 60 Ton)" for more information on
Tooling (G1).

Note: Use the identifying marks on the upper structure, on the swing gear, and on the
undercarriage to align the undercarriage with the upper structure for assembly purposes.

Note: Loosen bolts (16) that will be over tracks before swinging upper frame to 90 degree
position for removal.
15. Remove tube assembly (15). Remove two bolts (16) from swing gear. Install Tooling (F) into
swing gear to maintain alignment for assembly . Remove remaining bolts (16).

16. Use Tooling (D), Tooling (E), and Tooling (G) or Tooling (G1) to raise the upper structure off the
undercarriage in increments of 13 mm (0.5 inch). Raise the upper structure until the upper
structure is above the pinion shaft. The weight of the upper structure is approximately 22217 kg
(48980 lb).
