1. Defend why this study should be conducted?

This study should be conducted with the gap we presented that today’s nurses are less qualified to
practice than those who graduated five to ten years ago. Inadequate communication, complexity of the
clinical environment, lack of understanding about patient care, and a lack of experience working in
teams that contribute to gaps in nursing education and practice for new graduates. In the study of Smith
2021, it mentioned that new graduate nurses reported anxiety and less competent due to several month
gap of experience because of Covid-19 pandemic which decrease the level of practice readiness. So this
study aim to determine Clinical Practice Readiness among Graduating Student Nurses During COVID-19
Pandemic with the transition of face to face learning to online mode of learning of their nursing skills to
be applied in their nursing care. These skills are important because they use it in their hospital duties
and as advanced beginner nurse. And this study will surely help on our graduating student nurses to
know their strength and weaknesses on their nursing skills.

2. Why did you choose this study?

We choose this study because we want to determine the Clinical Practice Readiness among
Graduating Student Nurses especially in their nursing skills because they will become future front liner
or beginner professional nurses.

3. Why such area/location/setting

St. Paul University Iloilo, College of Nursing is known for its holistic and dynamic formation of caring and
competent Christian- Filipino Nurse and able to deliver various levels care so since the pandemic the
graduating student nurses only had their last clinical exposure and online classes for the one and half
years ago.

4. Why such participants

We chose the Graduating Student nurses because they will soon become future frontliner and will the
next registered nurses who will ensure patient safety and quality of care. They will be the first products
of St. Paul University Iloilo of graduating student nurses who had undergo online learning.

5. How will you choose your participants

We will choose the participants by using the total enumerating sampling technique which we chose to to
select the entire population to be participants of the study. The participants are those willing to
participate in study. The participants of the study will be regular students. The participants had pure
online classes for the past one and half year. Last clinical exposure was one and a half years ago.

6. Significance/Importance of the study

We have 8 groups who can benefit on our study

The Graduating Student Nurses, Clinical Instructors, Nursing School Administrators, Hospital
Administrators, Local Government Unit, Parents, Patients and future researchers

Objectives of the Study

The main problem of the study is to determine the Clinical Practice Readiness of Paulinian Graduating
Student Nurses During COVID-19 Pandemic.

Specifically, it also seeks to determine the following:

1. profile of the participants according to:

a. Sex; and

b. General weighted average

2. clinical practice readiness of graduating student nurses during COVID-19 Pandemic when grouped as
whole and according to profile as to:

a. basic nursing skills; and

b. advanced nursing skills

3. top 5 highest and lowest clinical practice nursing skills of graduating nursing students as a whole and
when classified to:

a. basic nursing skills; and

b. advanced nursing skills

3. strategies that contribute to the improvement of the clinical practice readiness of graduating student
nurses.
