National multicentric study on the perception of health professionals regarding the use of poly-

absorbent dressing with TLC-Ag for the treatment of wounds with signs or risk of infection: an
observational study

Objective: Description of health professionals perception regarding the healing process and reduction of
wound infection signs using a poly-absorbent dressing with technology lipido-colloid with silver ions
(TLC-Ag) for the elaboration of wound clinical cases of different etiologies in real conditions of risk or
signs of infection. As well as the evaluation of the experience of participating in the 1st Regional
Infection Forum.

Method: Cross-sectional, prospective, multicenter and observational study of 27 clinical cases

developed in the 1st Regional Infection Forum, carried out by selected professionals in different states
of Brazil. The time of use of the technology was on average of 40 days. The inclusion criteria of clinical
cases were risks or signs of local infection for which the poly-absorbent dressing with TLC-Ag was
prescribed. Each professional chose the treatment objectives according to the need of each wound, and
for the present study the main chronic factors for the infection were listed, which were: biofilm,
bacteria, sludge and exudate. They also evaluated clinical signs of local infection, wound healing
progression and dressing acceptance. As for the criteria referring to the 1st Regional Infection Forum,
the professionals answered a structured questionnaire containing 21 questions regarding the
organization and relevance of the event.

Results: A total of 27 clinical cases with acute and chronic wounds of different etiologies with risks or
signs of infection were treated with the evaluated dressing for an average period of 40 days. XX%
showed a reduction in clinical signs of local infection and suspected wound infection after starting
treatment. And all wound infection parameters continued to decline until the last visit. Meanwhile, the
main observable factors for infection had a reduction in all reported cases, with a reduction rate of XX%
for slough and XX% for exudate. As for the closure of wounds, XX% reported a decrease in the area of
the lesion. The dressing was well tolerated and well accepted by both patients and healthcare
professionals. Regarding the professional's experience in the 1st Regional Infection Forum, the result
was that 95% answered that after participating in the forum, the team expanded the indication of the
use of polyabsorbent dressings with TLC-Ag in the health institution where they work and for which in
the item “relevance of the presentation of clinical cases”, with 0 not at all relevant and 10 extremely
relevant, obtaining an average of 8.7 for this evaluation.

Conclusion: These results corroborate the cleaning properties and reduction of infection factors, the
healing capabilities and the safety profile of the polyabsorbent dressing with TLC-Ag in the management
of wounds at risk or with clinical signs of local infection, regardless of the characteristics of the wound
and the patient. And the relevance that scientific events bring to health professionals in scientific
production was reaffirmed through the positive evaluation of the Regional Infection Forum.
